Well you live and learn. Never knew Airfix did a Constellation

It/they are actually Heller kits but Airfix sold them when they were both part of the same firm. They did a standard Connie and a Super too, both BIG boxes of plastic and rather nice looking too, albeit a tad basic.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Got a 1:72 Trumpeter P-40B for only EUR 8,-. Might end up as an RAF aircraft - maybe one of the 46 Sq. machines as part of the Expeditionary Force in Norway in mid 1940... BoB tribute, perhaps?

There's a few problems with the kit, but changing the undercarriage legs to metal or brass should help. DJ Parkins do replacement resin  engines, although you may need to thin the props. Heller do an upgrade kit. The wingtip tanks are too small and the cockpit glazing is in the wrong place. You can't see the cockpit interior so this doesn't really matter. Use plenty of nose weight.

Right

I'm afraid that Airfix/Heller tie up is something my brain just won't recognise and I can never remember what was produced on the shared basis

Another Airfix 1?72 Bristol Superfreighter and the resin Magna Mk21 conversion. Perhaps change the tail as the Magna kit has the wrong shaped nose.
Or I could build my own look-a-like from the two C-119G fuselage sections joined end to end, roll-on-roll-off. With a suitable tail and raised cockpit, wing from the spares box.
Second kit with the running gear from a MH-53 Sea Dragon helicopter.

I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
