I also scratchbuilt a gearbox for a 1/24 Bugatti Royale.

You WHAT?  :o

I'm working on a modified Bugatti for a build on another forum.  It needs a manual transmission and standard 1/25 car ones look too small behind that huge engine (12.7 Litre straight eight).  A 1/25 truck one would have done the trick but I have misplaced my very small stash of truck parts.  I therefore scratchbuilt something appropriate.
The car will be a supercharged 4wd 2 seater roadster.  Tyres & wheels are going to be an issue as, with the gearbox, standard 1/25 car ones look too small.  I'm hoping I can cobble something together from truck wheels and tyres (they were in a different box which I haven't lost).

One of those annoying days where I didn't seem to get much done despite spending time trying to do it.

After doing some research (ooooh!) regarding wingtip missile rails I glued the wings and horizontal tails on the Mirage.  Later I looked again at a three view and discovered the tails should have zero dihedral not negative like the wings.  While "adjusting" this I noticed the wings were at slightly different angles and split the seam along the top of the fuselage adjusting them.
:banghead:

I also want to press on with scratchbuilding the suspension on the Bugatti but I can't do that until the engine and transmission is mounted and i can't do that until I can cut parts of the chassis away and I can't do that until i've reinforced it and the glue is drying (patience was never my strong suit).
:banghead:

I did however collect together a pile of parts for my main racing GB build and a Holden won the Bathurst 1000 so it wasn't all bad.

We all have days like that and then days that are the complete opposite

I get that every time I have a great idea for any one of the books I want to write.  Like, whilst listening to the Victory At Sea soundtrack, specifically The Pacific Boils Over, I got the brilliant idea of the following:

The SS United States on a retiree cruise of the South Pacific, through the Caroline Islands enroute to Nauru, gets hit by a cruise missile launched from a Neo-Imperial Japanese Navy Oscar-type SSGN.
The F-106- 26 December 1956 to 8 August 1988

Sounds good Scoot.  If you're setting it on Nauru you can include meddling refugee kids and evil Australian politicians.

Day off today so after doing my laundry I spent all day in the shed and got loads done.

I masked and painted the hull of the Sea Witch and decalled the Mitsu.  If anyone thinks putting stencil decals on it time consuming then you should try doing all these panel lines and rivets on a 1/24 car.

I also added more (home made) decals to the Hemi Hydro.
Miss Begotten WIP 08-10-2018 by Fred Maillardet, on Flickr

And I made major progress with bracing the Bugatti chassis.  This should stop it twisting.  It will prolly also get a K member at the front.

That's an early Hemi V8 (392 ci) engine in front of it to put its size in perspective.  Both are the same scale.

And finally. I primed the Mirage.  What a sleek and gorgeous aircraft.

Mirage F1 WIP 11-10-2018 by Fred Maillardet, on Flickr
It's a Hasegawa Mirage F1.  I'm building her clean so i've filled the (huge) hard points holes and have removed the wingtip rocket rails.
She's going to be RAAF.

I'd go along with that 110%, the F1 is a super looking aircraft, and amazingly small too.

Stand one alongside a Phantom and the 'Toom TOWERS over her!

Yup my favourite Mirage. I quite like the IV, but have never really liked the III for some reason ?

No modelling today due to work rearing it's ugly head.
Not sure how much i'll get done over the weekend either as i'm working tomorrow morning followed by Uncle duties until Sunday evening.

Managed to sneak in some modelling.
Bugatti front suspension is now 80% built.  I've got upper (AMT '58 Edsel) and lower (scratchbuilt) control arms and the bit that carries the wheel in place.  And i've remembered to allow room for the drive shafts this time.
Next I need to scratch up some coil-overs.

Other than that I squirted some paint about (Mirage, Evo Zero, something else...).
