Thanks mate.

Xmas street party last night.  One of the "young" (20) men up the road has now been serving in the RAN for almost a year.  He's training to be a helicopter mechanic.  It was fascinating listening to him chatting to those of the neighbours who also have military service under their belts.  They share a special connection that I can understand but will never have.

It gets even more special once they get a combat tour under their belt.  We become that Band of Brothers that Harry talks about in that play by Shakespeare.

Don't forget reunions years later.

One of the few Shakespearean lines most schoolboys of my age can remember  ;)

Yes, but you've not experienced Shakespeare unless you've read it in the original Klingon.

Perhaps blasphemously, my main memory of that play is from the so discussed Branagh installation, and it's not the speech, but rather the hymn the men sing immediately after the battle. It has no origin in the play script but is entirely devised by the film crew, but regardless, and maybe because I'm a chorist, it made an everlasting impression on me, and I still know it by heart.

The sequence can be viewed on YouTube >>HERE<<. Full screen and plenty of speakers recommended.

As a former alto soloist with the Edinburgh Festival Chorus, Madame R agrees with you that  it's sung well and fits the spirit of the play perfectly.

Day off today and I took my e-bike off to be looked at as it has stopped doing the "e" thing.
It was working fine.  I folded it up, transported it home in the back of Mrs z's car, and it hasn't worked since.  Power lights all light up but no go.
Battery is fully charged and I've checked all the obvious connections.  The insulation on one of the power connectors looks slightly burnt/melted but it could be the black mastic sealant used to crudely waterproof the electronics compartment.  It's hard to tell.  When it's folded the cables (which run inside the frame) are very tightly stretched round the hinge.
Obviously it's out of warranty.   :banghead:
I could have done without the two hour drive there and back but it's in the shop now where those experienced in the arcane art of "electricity" will study it and make it go when they return to work next year.   :-\

See a fair few of those e-bikes around nowadays, mainly Uber riders on the pavement.   They can certainly travel.

Listening to the radio today they were interviewing an author who had switched from writing non-fiction to fiction.
She said that when she made the change the sense of freedom was quite overwhelming and she was so pleased to be able to write whatever she wanted.
Which got me thinking that it is exactly the same when someone leaves the restrictions of building RW models and starts whiffing...

...FREEDOM!

So VERY true, no more counting those blasted rivets or having to explain to some numpty why your 54 Sqdn markings don't look  like the ones that 54 Sqdn. actually used.......

Yup,  that's especially true when you come from a community in which you're mostly ridiculed for whiffing, which was my case...  and that's exactly one of the things that made me wanna keep doing it even more... freedom is a good word to describe what i've felt when i found this forum.
