He's going to turn that Zero into a Hero!!

(I'll see myself out)

But yeah..... this is looking interesting........     I like it.

Finished masking the Zero today (I hate masking) and painted it.
Hero it is.

I have a plan to paint something else in a similar scheme in the future and this is really a test of my masking ability on a kit where it wouldn't have mattered if i'd screwed it up.

Looks good. Trying to make a check pattern and have it not go all wonky is pretty impressive. I suppose it helps having reference points on the model itself but still....   kind of like tile, if you ain't careful, it could be "off" by time you get to the "other side."  ;D

Yes.  There is lots of raised detail and rivetty goodness on this one to help line things up.
I used Tamiya 18mm tape putting long strips along the wings.  I then laid a short piece over the top parallel to the fuselage and used it as a guide to cut the cross ways tape moving it along the wing.  This gave me 18mm squares.
Putting the tape on in strips means it is straight to start with.  I'm sure if i'd cut squares and then stuck them on they would have gone wonky.

Neat work sir  Must admit masking is not one of my favourite tasks, especially canopies, which is why I tend to find other ways to do them.

Yes.  I printed the decals yesterday.  I've accepted that i'm not going to get my Pirate GB this year and have gone ahead on my own.

I also took the opportunity to print some more Tchadienne roundels as you never know when you are going to need to build a Chad plane.

Other than giving these a coat of clear I did no other modelling as after a week of being trained in a new post (sic) I needed to do nothing more than flump down in front of the TV and absorb Family Guy and American Dad.

This new job means less bench time.
I have gotten the decals onto El Beau though.

Viva La Mexico`!!!!!!    AYYE YAeeayayayA!   ;D ;D ;D

That's what I'm talking about. I think our Ese` neighbors don't get near enough love in the model building community.

I have some distant... future... way distant Mexico builds planned myself but honestly finding things to use or build is sketchy at best. Out of my massive piles of crap I only have a couple sheets of markings and maybe 2 kits? I think maybe just one... my "Patrula Plane" boatplane thing for the Mexican Navy.

Anyway, that's a brilliant idea right there and it's shaping up nicely.

I have a 1930's/1940's scenario involving a Greater Mexico and Colombia. Years ago I wrote an article for the UK Newsletter based on it. Central and S America in that period is a fantastic source for scenarios.

That's my speed right there. Stuff like the el Beau would be right at home. You're right.... the more I've read about that whole area (esp. the canal zone! ) it gets the mind to wandering/wondering and coming up with all sorts of things and I just barely know bits and pieces of the history!  The cool thing for me is that it's local-ish. I wouldn't have to leave the ground (per se) to get there. Especially Mexico! In fact, I have been there when I was a wee lad but it was so long ago I don't remember it. Might have been when we went to Galveston, TX though, which I do remember bits and pieces of but I digress....

Wouldn't happen to have this article you wrote handy in a digital form, would ye?     ;D

Glad you like it Brad C.
I just need to come up with reasons why a) it is powered by Double Wasps and b) why it is being operated by Mexico in the scheme they used in the Philippines (almost).
The engines are resin items intended for a B-26K Invader (and so are technically 2,500 hp R-2800-52Ws).  Next step is the nacelles which as they have separate cooling petal thingos to be glued to their rears are going to be fiddly and delicate and which I will no doubt break off again while masking and painting.

Not much time today in the shed but I did do some work on the Tchadienne Dog Jeep (nearly ready) and the Cold War hippy truck and the H21.

I think so mate. I'm away from home for a bit at the moment (using my travel p.c.) so I'll have a look when I get home
