Not sure if a cop car can be funky.  I'll have to grok that for a while.

There were 4 undercover ones flying the Palace Triangle this morning with blue lights flashing and sirens screaming trying their best to look funky 

I always wonder where these things are flying off to, but nothing made the news latter on.

Prolly just late for smoko (morning tea break) and heading back to the station before the last of the doughnuts get eaten.

LOVE the look of that Sea King. 

I bet that flag decal on the bow is going to be a bit of a devil to apply though!

Here is Sea King #1 with its gloss white paint.  You can really tell the difference from when it had a flat finish.  Not.

I have studied the three view in the transfers bag and it appears I have to mask some black areas behind the exhausts, on the sploats*, and around the windscreens.
Or, I can not bother and make it a whiff.   

And, my cunning plan worked and I got some colour to behave on the Dodge ute.

That's Vallejo Model Colour Pale Sand acrylic.  I had been thinning it with water previously when it was misbehaving.  This has worked fine in the past but this time I couldn't get an even finish.
So, instead, after a test to make sure nothing nasty happened when I mixed them, I thinned it with metho (methylated spirits - in Aus this is clear, not dyed purple like in the UK).
Result was what you see here.  A nice smooth even coat of colour with good coverage.  Dead flat finish but gloss clear will take cars of that after I add some red to the scheme.

It was about 7-15am, so they may well have been running the doughnuts to the Cop Shop ?  Actually reminds me that I've no idea where the nearest one is anymore ? Used to be one just off the Palace Triangle, but that shut eon's ago and is now luxury flats.

The "sploats" are sponsons, which are meant to keep the Sea King upright if it lands on water (they don't), while the black bits on the outsides are part of the inflatable emergency floats, which are meant to prevent it sinking (they, generally, do).

Despite its shape, the SinKing does not do well on water.

Well.....  you know I'm a fan!  Bright, glorious colors and the markings all fit with the color scheme. It's neat when stuff like placards and stencils blend in. The flag is the best part. I hope it wasn't a colossal pain in the arse.    I say that because similar "type" transfers.. you know... thin black outline parts with open space in the middle for the most part.. have gone south for me.

It's a RW build which is why it all goes together scheme wise.  It was put on a Sea King for the 75th anniversary of the RAN in 1986.

And then later had the 75 removed to be replaced with it's aircraft number.


The transfers went on OK.  A couple of the smaller ones folded on me, I broke one of the stripes and the corner of a flag off, and getting the stripes straight was a pain as I had sanded off all the raised lines of rivets.  To be honest the stripes could be straighter - I should prolly have put on some masking tape as guides.
As far as silvering goes though I don't think there is any surface more forgiving than gloss white.

The fun part will be cutting away the transfers where they cross the windows.

Thanks!!! I dig it. I love all the anniversary schemes and any time they get fancy pants with stuff. In fact, I collect 'em. I think my favorites are all the 1976 stuff the US made for the bicentennial. That's was just before we lost all our style and everything turned into perpetual grey.

First Sea King is getting close.  Having successfully removed the window masking and touched the paint up I've put flat clear on the black areas behind the exhausts and round the windscreens.
I've also started painting the wheels and tail rotor and have attached the winch.

Sorted out the next cohort of parts for the Sea Witch today.  I must say that the instructions are very, ummm different.  There is a written version (many numbered stages) on a double sided A3 sheet which uses the correct names of parts but no part numbers.  There is another double sided A3 sheet with diagrams (but not one for every stage) which uses part numbers but no names.  And there is a third A3 sheet with drawings of the parts and their names.  It doesn't help that I started building it using only the diagrams, or that some of the diagrams show parts being added in a different order to the written version.  Oh, and there are parts which appear on the diagrams but which are not mentioned at all in the text.
Such fun.  I can't wait until I get to the rigging.
I have a feeling that, while enjoyable, I may not be making large scale sailing ship a new modelling direction for myself.

But the main thing I did today was finish painting the valentines gift I built earlier in the week.
Two years ago I didn't have a card for Mrs z so I made a 1/6 scale one out of styrene sheet.  This year she seems to have developed an allergic reaction to the lilys we both favour so I made her a plastic flower instead.  Not a lily, but it is her favourite colour.

Depends on the missus.  Mine could care less about the Hallmark holiday that involves flowers, candy, and non-anatomically correct hearts.  Hallow's Eve is more her thing

In Jan's defence we were both very young at the time. I'd only just turned 21 and Jan was 20. She didn't expect much, but she didn't expect me to just go " Oh well don't need to bother any more" 

I certainly haven't forgotten about it since no matter what relationship I've been in
