Best dio/WWII aircraft??

This one is difficult as two were built, therefore making this a `real world` subject. The serials/markings are also based on a real world example.

It`s a real shame as this is another of Matrixone`s fantastic builds and I hope some of his more obvious whif builds were/are nominated.

Understood... It is a shame. Thought the scheme was whifed up.

Well as I understand it; matrixone says
"As far as I know not any of these were actually built but there were plans for them to be produced, the sudden end of the war stopped those plans."
That would make it a Whiff in my eyes
But to counter that I have just finished night shift
and therefore my thought processes may not be as lucid as they normally are
(others may think differently) ;D

The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

Guys, just my 2 cents worth on this.

Wikipedia (yes, yes, I know, the devil incarnate's source of info) states that " ... Delivery commenced in January 1945. When the United States Army overran the Oberpfaffenhofen factory in late April 1945, only 11 Do 335 A-1 single-seat fighter-bombers and two Do 335 A-12 trainers had been completed ... "  (link : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dornier_Do_335), and I cannot find a reference to a Do 335 B-12 being built anywhere else on any source in the net, my personal stash of books and a contact who is an aviation historian.

It would appear that the evidence is that no Do 335 B-12 airframes were ever started, let alone completed and entered service. It also seems that the two A-12 trainers did not actually enter service, so therefore any service camouflage scheme applied to any two seat Do 335 {either in an A or B variant} would qualify as a WIFF.

So, seeings as (1) no Do 335 B-12 trainers were ever physically built; (2) no Do 335 A-12 trainers ever entered service; and (3) Matrixone's build covers a 'double WIFF' being an in service model of a paper aircraft whose closest relative never got near the Luftwaffe, I'd say that his build is definitely in. Mr Moderator, what do you think?

Ciao

I can say without doubt that I applaud your conviction with regards to this subject and you may well have a good point about the scheme used.

Found these following pictures, some stating that they are B-12`s although I have no idea. They are missing the guns as such so I`m thinking they may be A-12`s??.

Like I said..., it`s a tough one.

The scheme Matrixone used is an operational one and one not found on the real world examples. It does have guns though..?

However is it different enough to be classed as a whif?

Well, to me, it seems that by the guns and scheme it would be... there are a lot of builds which only fit in the whif category by scheme and markings, isn't it?
Ok, probably not the most whifed up build but it is one heck of job.

Let the electorate decide.  If the voter thinks it is not a whiff then he (or she, thank you Reg) will not vote for it.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Ok..., it`s in.

Based on `what if` the Do 335 B-12 had become operational?   ....... which is a fair point.

OF COURSE IT IS IN.

No two-seater ever had guns, and no two-seater ever wore those markings.

So this is clearly not real world, in other words it is a What If.

A rather subtle, and superbly executed one at that!

Your all forgetting that Matrixone researches his subjects before modelling them so that he can produce subtle whiffs such as the Do335 B-12 which may not even have been a paper aircraft.

You are of course correct. Subtle being the key word. Hence why the question was asked.

This is probably the best example of a whif being a `victim` of it`s own success.

Moving on........

IMHO it is 100% in. We have been pretty liberal, and don't forget that this is just a nomination list. There's later the Jury's judgement what to add to the voting lists, and, more important, there's the voting among these finalists. Having a broad basis to settle things down is IMHO not bad/wrong, since there's so much good stuff coming along.
