Just thought Id post a few pics of what I`ve been getting up to and it`s a pretty much real world stuff I`m afraid.

Had a break from the 74 Sqn historical aircraft building for the upcoming reunion and entered a diorama GB on another forum and so it was a case of what to do.

Then I remembered this little incident......

It`s a pretty well known carrier crash that has been replayed a number of times on TV and has even featured in a few films.

Here`s where I`ve got with the rear fuselage section....,

..... before completing the front end.

I`ve since made a little crash crew figure and weathered the deck.

Hope to have this all completed by next week with a bit of luck.

Blimey, that's GOOD!

What scale is it?

A zillion years ago I was building an RW Airfix Hellcat and dropped it so the outer wing snapped off at the wing-fold joint and the landing gear was trashed, so I finished it as a 'crash landing', smacked into a palm tree on a polystyrene foam wall tile 'Pacific Island'.  ;D

Hellcats do seem to break so nicely.  ;)

No need for apologies, that's great. So hard to get the right 'feel' and look for a damaged aircraft, this one looks spot on. Looking forward to seeing the completed diorama.
Going to be finished in 2021 BEFORE I start any da*!#d new ones - CF-IDS Wolverine; Douglas Mawson; Bubba Wants a Fishin' Rig; NA F-100

Cheers guys.

Kit..., it`s all in glorious 1/48 scale and it was very handy to discover that the kit I used had the folded wing option which was cut perfectly in the same placed as the real damage.

Wow, that is seriously good. Crashed and damaged aircraft are so hard to get right but you've really nailed it there. Well done!

I'm so glad you said 1/48.  If it was 1/72 I was preparing to pack everything up and quit.

Excellent bit of damaging.  It's easy to get carried away.

Thanks all.

Found a couple of hours last night and this morning to put a few touches together and complete this dio.

Maybe at some point in the future I will finish it as I intended but I`m happy with what I`ve got.

As so onto the show.

As your all aware, this dio is `based` on a carrier landing incident on the USS Yorktown off Peleliu in 1944. The crash probably happened during Yorktown´s working-up period in 1943 though as this scene appears in the movie "The Fighting Lady" in an earlier context.

All completed in glorious 1/48 scale, this is the Hobby Boss kit with lots of extras from the spares box and a good sprinkle of tin foil to complete the look.

First some pictures of the completed dio followed by some of the various sections.

...... and now for the `money shots` with the few Photobucket effects added.

First in black and white.........

....... and then in `World War Two` colour.

Thanks for looking.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Excellent stuff, the bent and twisted prop is especially convincing.

The pilot is waving at the guy with the hose, "Don't spray me!"
This is excellent work.
