As a kid in the late'50s and early '60s I thought all British WW1 fighters were painted Yellow, as that is how they were portrayed on the box art at the time. This is an Esci Camel painted to represent Jim Cox's box art on the 1956 Aurora 1/48 Camel kit that I built as a kid.

Not having any real reference books until the 1970s, I though this was the "real deal". As it isn't, I think it is an appropriate "What-if?" subject.

I replaced the propeller and wheels in an otherwise OOB build. The markings are from the kit with a serial # from the scrap-box. The White is Floquil Reefer White. The Signal Red, Trainer Yellow, and Flat Black is leftover Airfix gift set acrylics in the little paint pots.

Aurora's first six WW1 kits debuted in 1956. This is my third build based on the original box art. I have done this one, and two Fokkers, a Dr.1 & a D.VII. I have an SE.5a and an Albatros D.III on order and am looking for a Nieuport 11 Bebe.

Very nice Larry ! I love the look in yellow. Areyou going to keep them all together with the box art ? Be a nice way to display them.

That's a very interesting concept, painting an older kit as per the box art. Also a very good model which shows what can be done with some of these old kits

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
