Griffon engined Mk VII with 4x20mm cannon in the wings and 2 in the turret.

I like that idea, did any WW2 aircraft of any type use cannon in a turret?

The French Leo 451 had a hydraulically-operated dorsal turret with a 20mm Hispano 404: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lior%C3%A9_et_Olivier_LeO_45

The Fokker T.V had a 20mm Solothurn S-18/100 in a manual nose turret: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fokker_T.V

That sounds neat... and the Defiant would have enough space for such an arrangement. I also have a leftover Bf 110 tail somewhere...? Ah, I feel inspirations come together...

Doesn't everybody?  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

From what I remember when I built the Heller 451 the turret/gun assembly (especially the gun) is very big. Way to big for the Defiant I would have thought ? Unless the Leo's gun was unusual - which would be about right for a French aircraft of the period

Should fit into a two seater Hurricane idea I have. Various marks of Spitfire at the front end or even a three seater, with an extended fuselage.

Work on hardware started!  ;D

Finally a use for the shabby Pavla Defiant... one more less in the kit pile!

The B&V 138 flying boat had two 20mm MG151 cannons in turrets too. They're quite large though...
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

The Do 18 flying boats in military use also received a dorsal turret with a single 20mm cannon (not certain if MG FF or MG 151/20?)

There's some good pics of the Leo.451 and it's turret on this page:

It looks pretty hefty, but I think a large part of that is due to the fact that it uses a high-velocity 20mm with a very long barrel. If it used something more like an Oerlikon FF, it could be much shorter and handier.

Right, didn't realise that was the reason for the Leo's rather large gun. Glad memory was correct though

The Wooksta!

IIRC, the Dornier Do 24 had a 20mm cannon in the mid turret from ex-French stocks.

Was given an assembled Pegasus Defiant TT, so that's going to be a nightfighter when I do some minor alterations.

Things fall into place... twin tail, bomb bay, new engine (radiator had to move!), waiting for a new vacu glasshouse canopy. Probably Netherlands use, 1938, before the neutrality triangles were introduced.

Basic painting done, decals just applied - unfortunately the roundels were brittle, so some repair painting will have to be done. Looks weird, though, and painting an aircraft in chocolate brown from below just does not feel right...

Dutch ?

Certainly. I took several of the aforementioned ideas in this thread and doctored my remains of a Pavla Defiant into ...something different, in Dutch service just before the German invasion. Stay tuned.
