There was an idea to use a passenger pod under a B-58A to explore human reaction to supersonic transport: http://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchive/view/1960/1960%20-%202646.html

Right, I mentioned the B-58 pod a few posts up, thanks for posting. Interesting.

So "exploring human reactions" to being strapped into a 60 inch tube with a pair of screaming J-79's to either side a few feet away?  Watching spindly landing gear go up and down, @200MPH touchdown speed?   Yes I imagine that would get some reactions.  :o

An enthusiasts dream, but a little old lady- perhaps not so much.

from another source: In tie-down tests Convair actually ran the inboard engines of a B-58 for ten hours with afterburners in maximum re-heat and sound levels up to 171 decibels to test the wing structure for sonic fatigue.

Sorry I missed your reference, sandiego89!

Would be marching to the beat of his own drum, if he didn't detest marching to any drumbeat at all so much.

I suppose if you were heavily sedated, the engine noise wouldn't be a problem.

Your hearing would still be damaged....  :banghead:
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Not RW, but in some of Dale Browns' more recent books, the EB-52 Megafortresses (which by now are all RPV's) can carry a Special Forces insertion vehicle in the bombbay. It's apparently got enough room in it for four or five guys in Powered Armour and their kit, and has a small turbojet and landing gear, so it can drop them in, land, and then takeoff again to get them back to the orbiting aircraft and re-dock.
It's a bit of a laundry-list of concepts (especially the re-docking part), but I figured it kind of fits in the topic, even if it is fictional.
