FAA Skyhawk - near Cuba 1962 FINISHED!

Doing this one for a GB over on BTS. It's going to be a Fleet Air Arm Skyhawk, from the same background as my FAA Panther, as illustrated by Cliffy B:



Mine will have it's gear down, the idea being that it's on deck alert during the Cuban Missile Crisis, with a live Red Beard on the centreline...    The A-4C radar nose and the Red Beard come courtesy of Freightdog.







No serious problems so far. The fit of the cockpit parts is far from exact, and the decals for the side consoles are too long: the length of the moulding instead of the length from the bulkhead to the control panel. One of the console decals started peeling but I think I've got it secured using glue as clear varnish.

Looking forward to seeing this progress but I would go for an operational 8** unit rather than 736 OCU unless you do the Red Beard in drill colours

There's a reason why it's 736: they were on HMS Albion doing sea trials with Red Beard at the time the Cuban Missile Crisis blew up and were the only unit with the training and the weapons, so rather than try to transfer the weapons (dangerous at sea) Albion headed west and got "tooled up" to full operational status by cross-decking with Bulwark as she came off-station.

Looks interesting.  Just as well they're trialling the A-4.  It needs that long, stalky undercarriage for the Red Beard!
