Love the end where buddy smoked the CH-53 with his RC and sends it 'flying' as well ! My only question is, with all of the details he's added, why skip the easy part, detailing the air wing ?

Looks like they were 1/72 scale models too, bags of scope for it.

It looked like a sawn off Nimitz and at 21 ft long that would scale at 1/52 if it was the right length, so 1/72 would work U guess.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

Not exactly new. About 20 years ago, I was reading Fine Scale Modeller and there was an article in there about a bloke who had built a full on 72 scale Enterprise. Complete with airgroup. The detailing was incredible. It HAD taken him about 20 years to build it, but it was worth it.

There's a 72 scale USS Enterprise in a shop near Norwich:

But God, that video was annoying. Between the presenter and the editor they filled 5/6 of the 3-minute video with bullshit. Show the damn aircraft carrier already!

Also: 1/72 RC aircraft!?

Captain Canada

Agreed Hobbes, especially with him in his truck talking, and the 75 references about his wife putting him in the dog house  :banghead:

The story was about the guy who built it not what he built. Pretty typical
of the 'human interest' stuff that particular reporter does for the Seattle NBC affiliate.

There's a 1/72 scale USS Enterprise, complete with a full Air Group,  in the US Navy section of the Smithsonian Annexe in Washington DC, or there was some 25 year ago anyway.

I was SERIOUSLY impressed by it when I went there as the guides spaced around it were all the local IPMS members who'd built it. They could answer every question anyone was likely to ask and made me feel proud to be a member of the same organisation.

The Pearl Harbour Museum has a nice model of a Japanese carrier and airgroup in what looks like 1/96th ? Is that a recognised ship modelling scale ? And that's impressive enough
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Goggle "1/72 Aircraft Carrier" and quite a few pop up including this one.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Yes Chris, that's quite common amongst the R/C marine community, there's lots of detail bits and pieces available in that scale.

That's a brill pic of a brill model Fred.

Love the Marine Band doing their thing on the flight deck, I wonder if he has suitable music playing aboard the model too? There's an R/C marine modelling group in Oz who model only in 1/72 scale called 'Task Force 72', and they do superb work. One of my car club buddies from the UK emigrated out there some years ago and he's a member of the group.

Wow this thread just got good ! Great pic, that carrier is loaded ! Needs a Harrier on the deck tho

And thanks for that link. Some beautiful and inspiring work in there !

Also, the Navy museum in Shearwater NS has a 48th-ish scale Bonnie and Escort. Hard to find good pics of her tho.

1/8" = 1' (1/96) and 1/16" = 1' (1/192) are both old ship modelling standards that predate both RC modelling and plastic kits.
