poor fitting Otaki 109G canopy 1/48

I'll post a pic to show you what I mean later, but the canopy, one piece, fits pretty well except for the front...not the side windows in the front, but the section right in front of the gunsight..that section just doesn't mate up with the fuselage and in fact there is a curved gap of about pretty close to two millimeters between the clear plastic and the fus..
what to do to?   cement canopy and white glue/putty in the gap or cement a strip of plastic card to the canopy, trim it into shape and then attach canopy?

I like to paint the canopy before I glue it on so i'd probably try to attach plastic to the canopy.
