This is not a recent build, but one from back in 2008.

Following the Falklands and a rather frosty period in the Cold War, the decision was taken to replace the Avro Vulcan in the long range nuclear strike role.

The British government opted for a new variant of the trusty Nimrod that could be armed with stand off weapons.

As the RAF had no real stand off weapons of its own at the time, they turned to the US and were able to procure a number of AGM-69 SRAM's and AGM-86 ALCM's.

Can't see the pictures, I know that the weapons bay wasn't that deep. They could have removed a few of the floorboards to cater for a decent payload.

I imagine that was a by-product of the Comet's engine locations and outward retracting main landing gear. More modern airliner based MPAs have to make do with short weapons bays because their wheels are in the way.

That is just gorgeous. I love the lines and shape of that aeroplane, and when added to the world's greatest camo scheme the combo is unbeatable ! Love the weapons load as well. Very nice. I guess that would have been a real deterrent !

Apart from the obvious, what's the difference between the MR.3 and MR.4, are there any comparative drawings anywhere ?

Almost everything........

The Mk 3 was the cancelled Airborne Early Warning version with the massive radomes fore and aft, whereas the MRA4 was the equally cancelled MR version with hardly any parts left over from the MR2s, even though it looked vaguely the same shape.

Weaver probably knows every single nut and bolt fitted to an MRA4, but he may not be allowed to tell us about them, even though it has been cancelled.

NOOOOOO!!!!! - He was in stores so would know the nuts, bolts, serial number, pack size, bin location, reorder level and paperwork required

Joking aside he would know the ins & outs of the MRA4
