Or do a 'Crl-F' on the page and search by Squadron no. in the box that appears at the top.

AFAIK that works in almost any browser on the planet.

For books (much better) I would suggest Fighting Colours: R.A.F.Fighter Camouflage and Markings, 1937-75.
according to a well known internet book site about 15 of your English pounds

And you'd probably also want Bombing Colours: British Bomber Camouflage and Markings, 1914-37
as well.

Oh yes, I've almost worn the print off the pages of my two copies of those two. Veritable Bibles of RAF WWII Camo schemes.

I a somewhat related note, I was lucky enough to see VR-A and Vera Lynn at Hamilton back in the 90s. That was very cool, and a lifelong memory. Wish I'd gotten a pic with her.

who thinks that laboriously painting on letters to the fus was a great waste of time and resources?...what happend when a plane was sent to another squadron? the letters were removed and replaced I suppose...another waste....perhaps like Japanese airplanes all that was really needed is the roundel

Always felt the simplest and most logical system, if one is required, was the pre/and WWII USN system. Sqn no., type of mission, ac no. within squadron for eg a TBD with 6T1 ( or is it the other way round....ahha, a flaw

). All those coloured stripes and bands were a bit too much but very beautiful.

Surprised no one adopted the Dewey system....

One of the problems with that is that the enemy could operate a captured example far more easily.

C&C did/does require positive ID. In an emergency you could get away with no codes but over a campaign I think they are needed. Plus there's the whole "espirit de corps" factor.
