Having been up to Jamieson's in Glasgow I was able to get the particular paint that I needed for my 1WGB entry.
I actually got two tins of paint, but the other one is for the Avia CS-199.
Oh yes, Mrs. JayBee got a new pair of shoes.

So here is the box front of my subject.

OK, so here we go, a little bit late in starting, but as SWMBO says I tend to do my best model making when under pressure especialy when it is me putting myself under said pressure.
Oh well.

This kit is superb, but it does have a number of small problems, not for anyone who wants to build it OOB, but for this build, yes.

Firstly, as this is going to be an aircraft that is not armed the weapons doors have to be closed.

So there is a lot of cutting off and trimming to do.
However at the end of it the fit of the doors is impeccable.

The next small point about this kit is the size of some of the moulding gates.

For anyone building this kit they are going to be a bit of a problem.

Next, I was fitting the air brakes/spoilers in the closed position. Again the fit of the parts is superb.

Well I have had a few problems with painting, but when have I never?
This is where I am at the moment.
Ready to spray the main colour, and no it is not going to be grey (or gray for our American cousins).
The wheel wells are blanked with thin card. These were created using the kit wheel well doors as a template and the result was fantastically good. Once again a credit to Platz.
So now to the next stage.

....and now at 20.51 local this project is dead.

The spraying of the main colour ended up with a serious "orange peal" effect.

So I have given up, it may get finished eventualy, but who knows.

The plan was to do this:

Blue Angels to Fly Unmanned Drone Aircraft – Artist's Depiction
In a surprise announcement today, the US Navy announced that the Blue Angels will transition from their current F-18 Hornets to unmanned F-47 aircraft for their 2018 airshow season. The team will still fly a full 'delta' aerobatic routine, including tight formations, using six of the cutting edge drones. The only difference is that the pilots will never leave the ground and will instead monitor the pre-programmed flight routines from special trailers set up at each show site. Since the aircraft are unmanned, the team will no longer offer media rides but will allow selected media representatives to 'sit in' on practice demonstrations using a virtual reality headset that will be known as Blue Angel 7, the same callsign as the team's current two-seat media jet. The pilots will also be expected to post to social media during the routine to increase their interaction with fans.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for the Navy to showcase our advanced technology and cutting edge aircraft," said Jack Herndon, the Navy's Chief of Public Outreach. "Honestly, the Hornets are getting to be quite old and worn out. We saw the need to replace them and decided to take advantage of the timing by leaping straight ahead to our very newest fighter aircraft, the F-47. The Blue Angels' primary mission is to inspire America's young people to join the Navy, and with this transition we are able to demonstrate that even young men and women who only want to sit at a computer all day can have a successful Navy flying career. Those are exactly the people we are looking to recruit in the future."

I really love this idea, but I do worry about the date it was released on the Internet.....

RESURRECTION!

Checked the model this morning and the "orange peel" effect has gone.
This is the first time I have used Lifecolour acrylics so I do not know if this is normal behavior for these.

However the race is back on.

I use Lifecolor a lot Jim and have never had the problem although I'm a hairy stick man.

Nice ! Glad to hear she's back on. Interesting to see the pics, as I've never seen that kit of maker before. Looks like this one has all sorts of Scale-o-rama potential eh ?

Well I think I know what the problem was with the paint, and I say this because I had to do a second coat, plus I had forgotten to spray the u/c doors. They all came up with the same effect. However looking at it with a magnifying glass it was not "orange peel" effect but tiny air bubbles! These disappeared when the paint dried.
The why and wherefore of getting air bubbles when you airbrush is well outside my field of knowledge.

Anyway here is where I am at 2020 Saturday evening.

Looks good ! Glad the bubbles went away. Weird. I don't know much about the airbrush and it's quirks either, that's why I usually brush

Jim was the Lifecolor in "clear" or "opaque" plastic pots ?

Originally it came in the clear style pots and was a pain because it was quite thin but would dry out in the pot in no time at all. Threw loads away. The opaque pots contain a slightly thicker mixture which doesn't dry in the pot. Thins well with tap water as well. I like Lifecolor just have to get it when you see it though.

All I can say Chris is that you can see the colour of the paint through the container.
I thinned it with Xtracrylic thinners.
Maybe I should have used what TSRJoe's Finnish friend Henne suggested (she used it to good effect)...........Polish Spirit

At least the atmosphere around the spray booth would be enjoyable.

Sun 1657 local.
Almost finished, just a few bits of touching up to do, and a final coat of Kleer to make it shinier.
Oh yes and the various antennae need painting.
The figure in these two photos is just to let you know just what a size this beast is.
The model is 1/72 scale.
