With the 45th Anniversary of the successful failure that was Apollo XIII, Universe Today is posting 13 MORE things that saved Apollo 13, a five year follow-on to 13 Things that Saved Apollo 13 (from 2010- the 40th Anniversary), with one article a day.  Makes for some pretty fascinating reading

Strewth, was it THAT long ago? I wasn't even 30 then!  :o
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

I was about a year old then.

I have never seen the film Apollo 13 but have always thought these guys as very brave men indeed.

Well worth it, Tom Hanks does a super job as Jim Lovell, Ed Harris as Gene Kranz is magnificent (He even looks like him anyway!) and Jim Lovell himself appears in the film as the Captain of the USS Iwo Jima.

I saw it during it's opening week in Minneapolis with a bunch of the local IPMS Branch there, and when the capsule splashed down the  audience went CRAZY!  ;D

I was 18 and can remember how it gripped us all. Moon exploration had become almost mundane, although I can vividly remember the first landing, but this woke us al up and made us realise just how dangerous it was.

The average modern car probably has more and better equipment then the Apollo capsules had and I'm only partly joking.

Was it John Glen when asked what he'd thought about while he orbited the earth "you tend to remember that it's the lowest bidder who's built your craft"

Brave men and true pioneers
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
