Cool build!  Gotta love the way the light blue parts contrast with the set of the colour scheme.

Taken a page out of the 'Augsburger Puppenkiste Book of Immitating The Sea', eh? ;) Works brilliantly.

There's always something 'kaiju'-like about beached flying boats.
Cheers,

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

Superb Thomas, the best of a large number of 'bests'.

I just LOVE that backstory, it reads just like an excerpt from a Green and Pollinger book, magnificent stuff.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

apparently the good(?) old(!) VEB/Plasticart/Revell Beriev-6 is a quite popular whiffing material these days, as Nils did a germanization of it, and I used the hull for a combination with a B727 : this would be worth a Group Build maybe?

There is a more recent Be-6 in 1/72 by Trumpeter I think : anyone had a chance to look at it? it is not in the same price category though, it seems.

I am also currently busy with another project involving the tail fin remaining from my previous things : something quite hybrid ... wait and see

I have seen the instrcutions as well as some sprue pics - it is definitively a better kit of the Be-6, but that's actually not hard to achieve when you look at the VEB Plasticart Be-6. Very much details, e. g. a full set of underwing ordnance, a beaching gear, etc. It would take a LOT of input to get the VEB kit up to that, and on the other side I'd sthink it would be a shame to butcher the Trumpeter kit for a conversion - it's IMHO just too costly. But you never know...  ;)

which brings the question of whiffing with only cheap kits : that is what I do, too, but in cases where quality is at the level your build shows, it might be worth at least as much as an OOB build, including for expensive and rare kits : maybe we could un-censor ourselves a bit (but then costs will rise indeed )

I already did that - e. g. with rel. expensive Special Hobby kits and such, or vintage anime kits that have some serious collector value.

In this case I would not have "butchered" a Trumpeter Be-6, though. The absolute price tag is too high for me, and the old VEB kit in itself just cries "make something from me" to anyone - be it a "real" Be-6 (there are some upgrades around the WWW) or something whiffy.
