I take it there will be an in progress sub-board where we can all announce our glorious builds?  I'm all set.

Yep, just open a new topic as normal.

I've opened mine to get started on the GB main topic, just follow the same pattern.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

A question,
it must be Aircraft? Or the model can also Sci Fi, a Tank, ship or be so?

Anything as long as it goes from Civilian to Military or vice versa, whilst many favour Aircraft, there are still plenty who work with Armour, Naval, Cars, Space or Sci-fi (or a combination of all of the above in some cases !!! )

A couple of questions for the moderators

Are University Air Squadrons (UAS) military or civilian? (does it depend on the era?) One possible thought I'd had was a 'fairly basic' jet trainer (ie a Gnat) flown by a UAS?

My efforts, if I suceed in getting started, will be repaint jobs (I'm not yet upto the chopping and changing that others do so well on here ) So I'm thinking military versions of civilian airliners. The fact that some airforces might already operate a similar model of airliner wouldn't preclude doing it in the colours of another airforce? (eg I'm thinking possibly doing an Airbus A320 or Boeing 737 in RAF colours of some form?)

hope that makes sense?
Oh to be whiffing again :-(

I'll talk to Mushi and get back to you.

UAS's are intersting, and you are right it does depend on the era. When the UAS's were part of the RAF then they would be military, however when civil contractors took over the role of UAS and ab initio training they are civilian organisations. So depending on which way you are WHIFFing, where (or better when ) your WHIFF starts is important.

The fact that these birds were originally designed as civilian kit makes this OK, particularly if you are going to WHIFF a variant that has never seen military service before ( trying hard to think of an example, only coming up with Concordes, A380a and Caravelles ).

Cheers
Going to be finished in 2021 BEFORE I start any da*!#d new ones - CF-IDS Wolverine; Douglas Mawson; Bubba Wants a Fishin' Rig; NA F-100

.......and Caravelles ).

IIRC the Armee de l'Air used them for ELINT work so that leaves two...........
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

717?

AFAIK the only military DC9 variants were those smaller than the -50, so a 717 would be on the list.

Thanks Modelling_Mushi and Mossie (try saying that after a few imagination freeing drinks  :drink:)

That backs up my brief perusal on the topic. Very roughly ...back in the '30s flying Avro Tutors they has military serials and RAF roundels. Now flying Grob Tutors the have civil registrations, but still have RAF roundels. So if for example a UAS was to fly Gnats with civil registrations that would definitely (probably) be okay!  ;D

BUT if the Gnats still had military serials (eg second hand RAF examples) and the UAS had somehow won a contract to do the initial training and so operated as a government agency / subcontractor that probably wouldn't be okay!  :o

OKAY ...so to clarify, because (for instance) Boeing 737s have been used by Air Forces before it WOULDN'T be okay to take a (for instance) Revell 737 and put it in an RAF (who haven't used it before at all!) scheme

'Ello, I finished this thing yesterday, having started it on the 31st of last month.
I didn't notice the groupbuild had already started: could a moderator maybe transport it into the finished builds bit, pretty please?

Also: how many builds can one enter into the groupbuild? Couldn't find anything regarding that in da rules. (or is that because there's no limit, so no rule?)

Cheers
