NARSES2

Right here are the proposed rules for the second GB of 2015.

We haven't been strict in the rules about the definition of civilinise/militarise as to be honest we need extra server space to cover every eventuality your fertile minds could come up with. Therefore if anyone is unsure whether their proposed builds fits into the GB or not contact the Moderators and after some discussion amongst themselves they will decide one way or the other. The overall plan is to be reasonably lenient but the spirit of the GB will be the overriding factor in any decision. That of course and to have fun

Your Moderators in this GB will be Mossie and Modelling_Mushi. Now the benefit of having 2 is that we have cover over the 3 months. The down side (if you can call it that) is they need to communicate with each other over some questions relating to the GB, so be patient.

I will not be acting as a Moderator but will provide the actual Mod's with any back up and help they need. I will also wield the big stick  ;D Seriously lads we don't want to be strict we want you to have fun so keep to the spirit of the GB and we'll be ok - after all you voted for it

So the proposed rules of this GB are as follows.

1. The GB runs from the 1st of June 2015 till midnight of August 31 2015, . Extensions may well be considered dependent on the bribe amount  ;D
Extended to midnight Sunday 13th September.  Bribes successful!

2. The GB basically means you take anything originally designed for military use and make a civilian subject from it or vice versa. Military equipment being used by the military for non military purposes eg : humanitarian work is not included, if you take the M to C path then the finished subject must be civilian. When I let the Moderators see these rules they mentioned the use of equipment by Government/non Governmental  agencies. Now this could be a sticky point, but we have decided to deal with it as and when the need arises. Otherwise we will just get into a lawyers dream

3. The GB welcomes models, profiles and stories and anything else your fertile minds can think of.

4. Models already started are allowed as long as major building work has not started before the GB begins.

5. Finished models and profiles to be posted (with picture and link to build thread) in the finished builds thread within the overall GB thread in this Board..

6. There is no rule 6, never EVER ask about rule 6

7.  Have FUN

8. If you want to comment on a build profile/model, please do that in the model/profile threads and NOT in the completed build/profiles threads, if a comment is made in the completed build threads, they will be moved by the mods.

So there you are lads. Comments, proposed modifications welcome and to be honest we may still be finalising these during the early days of the GB. So please bear with us. Hopefully I'll get my act together quicker next year.

Chris

Rules look good

For the military to civilian I lean more towards non-government entirely (ie: a NASA operated SR-71 or XB-70 would not meet the intent of the build, but if some civilian cobbled together a SR-71 and went to set some records, that would be fine.)  Perhaps some examples would help before the lawyers get too involved?

Examples of organizations that would meet the civilian intent: Cousteau Society, Greenpeace, Blackwater, Sea Shepards, equipment sold or leased back to and operated by a manufacturer, contractors, (like a radar test bed) etc:

Examples that do not meet the intent: FAA, DERA, Customs, Coast Guards, NACA/NASA, Qinetiq (yes I know it is "private"), Interpol, NSA, CIA, MI6/SIS, DGSE, etc.

Gray area: local Police MRAP, firefighting vehicles, national park service, schools, etc.

Just my 2 cents, I defer to and thank the moderators!

Darryl Greenamyer Rules OK!

Thoughts of a red and white SR-71 exceeding Darryl's 988 mph record in the 'Red Baron'......  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

The National Park Service did/may still operate a couple tanks and artillery pieces to fire at avalanche sites.

Hmmmm... NPS A-10 as a fire spotter and avalanche control......

That was exactly what I was thinking when I typed it (no I don't plan to build that, my entry will be much slower  ;))- would have loved to see, hear, feel, the RB-104 Red Baron record run- 988 on the deck (and maybe faster) heard it shattered car headlights  :o

Cool. The wheels are turning ! I'm thinking of an armed, armoured harbour defence tug boat, and a clipped winged B-17 plying trade up North.

I'll have a go! Thanks, moderators.
Just for clarity - F.I.G.A.S. aircraft in the Falklands are civil registered - are they within the rules? RNLI ok?

I'd just like to register an interest in the F.I.G.A.S. question too...  ;)

My intended built is a Hueycobra, bought by Argentina, captured intact on the Falklands, completely disarmed, and used by F.I.G.A.S. as a flying crane for a few years before being sold on. In real life, they had a Huey (not Cobra) in similar circumstances.

To be honest i would stick Government Organisations as Civil.

Basically because they tend to be easier to find decals for and dont carry military schemes. Plus it gets harder to judge if your parameters are too spcific, after all the idea is to make mil hardware look good in civilian use and vice versa, we don't want to start having to work out if a company using kit under govt contract is classed as mil or civil.

I have an idea for a build, and the bits, could be quite easy although I do have enough things to get on with at the moment  :banghead:

RNLI are definitely civvy, they're a voluntary organisation and don't receive any funding from Government.  The only time I recall of them being involved in a conflict was the Dunkirk evacuation.  F.I.G.A.S. too, it's mostly transport with a bit of fisheries protection I believe.

The Government Agencies question isn't simple as Chris suggest, for instance the Coast Guards (USCG having a military role, HMCG having none) that San Diego mentions.  I'll knock heads with the other mods and see if we can up with something.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
