MG Zaku II F2: the Ramshackle Zaku

The backstory-idea is that the E.F.S.F. (Earth Federation Space Force, the 'goodies' in the Gundam universe) has salvaged bits and pieces of enemy 'Zaku' suits from the battlefield and sends lone, patchwork Zaku's back into the war, sniping away at Principality of Zeon (the baddies) troops and mobile suits, and basically causing confusion. Not very gentlemanly but there you go. War is hell and all that.

Anyway, it's Bandai's Master Grade (ie. 1/100 scale) Zaku II, with bits left off and other bits added. The dio is made from some wood I had left from my aquarium, a piece of slate, twigs, moss, leafes and Cladonia. For firepower I butchered a Kotobukiya sniper rifle and the Zaku's original beam rifle, added an after market aluminium 1/35 barrel and merged the parts into what you see here.

Here goes:
Total shot. From the ground up the total height is 40cm (15.7 inch).

Close up of the head:
I added 4 small sensors/lenses to the helmet part.

Head-on view:
Most decals came from the sparesbox, exept for the black EFSF lettering.

Way cool. Excellent job on this piece. Love the dio and the way he is peeking out from behind the wood. The weathering and details and the battle damage really bring it to life. Love the last shot !

Brilliant.  You can get such dynamic poses with Gundam.  Kudos to Bandai's designers.

I saw the title and was expecting a worn-out MG car  ;D

This all goes way over my head, but I can recognise a good model

That looks great - really nice dio.

Excuse my ignorance, but how big are these "suits"?

Without leaving the sick couch and venturing down the shed with a tape measure i'd say the 1/144 ones are 5 to 6 inches tall.

They're 20-odd metres tall, give or take. Nicely done, Sticky Fingers! Love the custom rifle especially. :)
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

zenrat

it's hard to find an image of a Zaku with the pilot and the suit to give you an idea of size.  But this should help.

The 'Live Concert version'???

The mind BOGGLES!  :o
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

The average Zaku is 17,5 meter tall.
If they existed.
And, in 1/100 scale, about 19 cm.
How big is it compared to the pilot? Happy to oblige, with a very unflattering image (paintjob looks awfull now :-\):

In Tokyo a couple of years back they build a 1:1 Gundam suit:

There you go!
