Small update. Been working on the interior hangar expansion set for my SBY the last 2 weeks. Not as detailed as I hoped it could be because I have bad eyesight and can't paint all the aircraft the way they are supposed to be. :( But if there ever comes a time when the aircraft can be further detailed in the future, then the "pallets" that the blue fighters are sitting on are completely removable from the expansion set. They are not glued in to the rest of the white and gray hangar structure. The "upper hangar" is where two boats and smaller tanks/APC's are kept, as well as me adding some small boxes of cargo. Why boats and tanks you ask? If you take a look at one of the pics below of the instruction sheets, you'll see that there is a small boat in the hangar. And even though I can't read Japanese, I had to do a bit of deductive reasoning and logic and surmised that the SBY does carry some tanks and ground support vehicles. I didn't have the right types that the SBY calls for, so I had to substitute some 1/700 scale US Army/Navy vehicles from a USS San Antonio LPD. The yellow vehicle in the first pic is a large ammo carrier for transporting the anti-spaceship torpedos for the bow torpedo launchers.

Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

Not complaints about your painting here ! That looks excellent. The little details are really bringing this to life. I like that SC97 ship, very cool looking. Love the torpedoe transporter as well. Not too sure about the boats, armour and crates tho. Might be on the instruction sheet but they just don't look right to me. And wouldn't the boxes burn up entering the atmosphere ?

Given that the Yamato also functions as a "conventional" battleship, the boats make sense.  And the deck has a pressurized airlock that leads out o the cats.

Even if they don't "look" right, I wanted to add a little extra detail to that hangar bay space so it wasn't so empty. Look at the 3 small pics below that are underneath the 4 pics of the aircraft. One pic clearly shows a small boat. The pic on the far right shows some sort of laser tank. By "reading" very carefully the SBY specifications list on the other half of the instruction sheet, I was able to determine the SBY does carry small boats and armored vehicles.

As some of you have already read from previous posts of mine, I am using what are called Gundam Mechanical Chain Bases (MCB's) to create a type of dock/maintenance scene for my SBY. I already have 6 MCB's. Two more are on order and I am waiting for them. I want to create a MCB base that is 4 MCB's long x 2 MCB's wide. If I don't recieve the final 2 MCB's that I need, I may have to create a base that you see in the below pic.
Here's my question:  When taking this to a contest for people to view/judge, How many wall sections should I have? I don't want to have too many walls on either side of the SBY or people won't be able to get a good look at the ship, take pics, or judge it.

That's a tough call, I guess you'll just have to keep re-arranging them until you can get a good feel.

Nothing new to report on this project. I still have to put all the decals on the ship yet. The 2 final MCB's I ordered from Amazon back in June never arrived and I had to file claims and get refunds.  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead: Therefore, I'll just have to use the 6 MCB's I currently have.

That sucks. It's always a pain when that happens, especially when you have to be inconvenienced as if it were somehow your own fault !

Houston, we have a GO for main engine ignition!   I finally got around to lighting up the rear main engine on the SBY. Had to take my rotary tool and do some major surgery to get the LED flashlight to fit in the back end of the hull.
Next thing I need to do is apply all the decals on the ship which I have been procrastinating on.  :banghead:

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Oh that looks good ! Can't wait to see this all done up. Going to be one awesome display !

This is coming along nicely Seadude. I am currently building the exact same kit, although it's stalled whilst I wait for some parts to arrive.
I have a question for you - how are you going to turn the engine light on and off? I just don't see any connectors to it is all and it looks like a push button torch - although I could well be very wrong about that

As you can see in the above pics, there is a small black button on the left at the end of the mini light that I push to turn it On and Off. I'll turn the light on, then install it into the rear engine piece, then attach the rear engine piece to the rest of the ship.

Final pics of the SBY. Took it to a model contest yesterday and won a 2nd Place Silver Award.  :drink:
