Indeed there was and that was what gave me the idea for this model.
The other little twist is that I am using the two-seater as the fireboss's lead plane.

In the real world of course there was only one two-seater built and it is in a museum.

The original proposal never went ahead as politics got in the way.
A-10s were not released for sale from AMARG as they were deemed "required for national security".

Seen a couple built up as firefighters so seeing one as the Fire Boss would be different.

Those would be great firebombers. Love the idea would be neat to see and transit times would be good as well.

Right work has commenced on this project.
First is the wing/underfuselage part with the various unneeded pylon locating holes filled and the required pylons fitted.
The Centre-line pylon has been modified so that the lower edge of all three pylons lie in the same plane.





Next the forward lower fuselage part with nose weights added, well there is loads of space for weights so why waste it.

I seem to recall that the weight, specifically where the weight of the gun, armor, ammo drum and ammo was on the A-10- that weight was a real issue when mulling a A-10 firefighting conversion.  Although the aritcle kerick links indicated this was no big deal- "just rip all that stuff out"- seems to miss the larger weight and center of gravity realities.   Removing thousands of pounds far forward on any aircraft will cause trouble.  Center of gravity needs to be ahead of center of lift (unless you play FBW tricks).  Maybe jaybee can backstory in a few tons of depleted uraninum up front as ballast   

I too have two A-10s in the stash that were to be firebombers, and even got to the point of fitting up big tanks (48 scale tanks on a 72 scale aircraft), but never got past dry fit.  Bring it on jaybee!

That was one of several big arguments against it.  I think that one was over-egged, as I've not heard it as an argument put against the A-10 storm-penetrator that's currently undergoing conversion.

Keep it coming Jim. I grabbed a single-seater off Nick at Telford with the intention of giving it a similar treatment, I'll be very interested how it turns out.
