Love the paint job and that is one BIG fin.

They miss-scaled the 1/72 scale drawings to 1/48.  ;D

Great stuff. I love how it still wears the wee Newfie flag on the tail. I love the 215, and those episodes were epic, as was the Atlantic crossing.

The cockpit interior has been done and the canopy masked.
I also have a good idea in my head what the final colour scheme is going to be.

Looking good ! The pilots in their jumpsuits are going to look great once the masks are removed !

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

The next bit to do is the Fire Retardent Pannier, carried underneath the Hog.

Here it is in it's early stages.
I originally planned to do this in plasticard but for expediencies sake it is Balsa wood.
(I have lots of Balsa as I am a keen R/C Flyer.
This is it after six coats of Mr. Finisher, there are a lot still to go.

The inspiration for this came from these two Ecuriel,s that I saw in Corsica in 2005.

Nice. But that's after 6 coats ? Wow ! So much for expedience eh ?

yes, balsa's terrible if you want a smooth finish. Best start by dipping it in lacquer or Future a few times to seal it. Then the paint or filler won't be absorbed so much.

Gondor

Why not skin the balsa in thin plastic card?

Good advice, give the lungs a break.

NARSES2

I always used the talcum powder/clear dope trick to seal balsa
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

JayBee

Me too Chris, but I have not had any clear dope in my possession for YEARS. Modern aeromodelling does not require it.

I found a pot of it in The Loft a month or two ago, made by Gloy, so you can tell how old it was!  :o

Needless to say it was totally solid, like a pot shaped lump of amber!

This will be finished in time just a little bit of paint touch up to do, then photos.
I have had two problems over the last week.
First, old transfer sheets. I was using white and black stripes from Scalemaster. The black worked perfectly, but the white disintegrated, badly. This required a rethink about the planned colour scheme as I could not do what I originally wanted.
Funny really as both sheets were exactly the same age, about 30 years or so !
Second, I used bluetac (white) to mask the wheel wells. DO NOT DO THIS. I had to spend an entire morning digging it all out.

Still, photos to-morrow.
