At least with HO/OO and HO you clearly know what size a vehicle or piece of scenery is going to be, but if it just says "N-gauge" you're left guessing as to whether it's 1/148th (works with 1/144th models) or 1/160th (too small)... :banghead:

One guide is the subject itself or how it's described.

Of it's described as a 'Small terraced house' it's more than likely to be 1/148 as it'll be British outline, such houses being much more common this side of the North Sea. if it just says 'Supermarket' you're screwed though.

And if the car is a Merc it's more than likely going to be 1/160, whereas a Land Rover would tend to be 1/148.

The manufacturers tend to align with the country they're in, Knightwing stuff is 1/148 as they're in Huddersfield whereas Vollmer is German so it's 1/160.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

Wow - that 'terraced house' quote all of a sudden brought back a vivid memory flash: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32bVUFshSAo
