Hawker Hurricane Mk1a of GC 1/4 Armée De L'air 1940
Supplied from former Royal Air Force stock to replace losses of Curtiss H-75's at the start of the war. This aircraft represents the aircraft flown by Sargent Jules Joire of 1ére escadrille du GC 1/4
The aircraft depicts the aircraft shortly before it was lost in action during L'affaire de Dakar at the start of 1941.

The weathering ended up being a little heavy in places which I am disappointed about  :-\

The kit is the Airfix Fabric winged Hurricane in 1/72 scale. Paints are Enamel for the most part. The camouflage was painted using Humbrol colours, Hu144, Hu98 and Hu163 for the upper surfaces with a 50%+50% mix of Hu64+Hu65 for the undersides. This was a change to what I used as a paint guide I found for a Curtiss P36/H.75 on the web which specified Hu79 rather than the Hu144 and which I think might look a bit better if Hu230 is used instead and Hu101 rather than the Hu163 that I used. The result with the specified colours was this

Not quite right are they

The fin was painted using Acrylic white by Airfix with Hu109 and Revel 36 for the national colours.

I used a length of 3mm masking take to mask the white area before painting the other two colours. I rather like the look although the blue appears too dark compared to the decals that came from a Berna Decals set for Curtiss H-75 Aces of GC 1/4
Additional decals came from the kit.

Hope people like it

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Come out well mate  Must admit it's one of the options I was thinking of for my stack of Hurri's and will probably still get done but with either some personal art or squadron art as I've loads. Must do the RAF 20mm canon armed one first though
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Nice one. Love the old school Hurricanes, and this one really fits the bill. The colours and markings look great on her...old lucky number 13 ! Nice idea for painting the rudder as well....duly noted !

I should have said that most of the markings on the fin were from Kit's DeKals and had included several pre painted rudder stripes, unfortunately my ability to you them was no where near the quality of the decals so I had to use option B which was the paint the rudder myself and use a set of Aircraft names supplied on a clear background along with the ones on the pre painted ones. I should try and remember the word KISS (not the Band)

From France, I confirm this is very true: I saw it scale 1 in my dreams!
  Nice model!
[the word "realistic" hurts my heart...]

That's looking VERY French Alastair.

I do like that colour scheme, especially on a D520 or similar, and the Hurricane is similar.  ;D

Glad some of the decals worked OK, they look part for sure.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I love it. That looks so good, it really looks right. The ID on the rudder is perfect! Terrific job!

Heavy weathering? No - the French pilots just flew a lot. :)

All the decals worked well Kit, it's this thumb fingered oaf that that had the difficulty using them! I always get confused about MicroSol and MicroSet with the end result that's a mess

I escially like the typical French production number regsitration on the rudder. The paint scheme ist tricky, but also a huge room for pattern experiments. No aircraft was painted like another, and sometimes even artistic things were applied. I think I used on my French Buffalo Humbrol 87, 95 and 159 - and there's also no definite tone code, as the colors were mixed in the field and anything used what vaguely resembled the bluish grey, green and brown.

Thank you for that information Dizzyfugu, I had no idea that the colours were mixed in the field.
