:o Oh boy, that doesn't look good... but again, i suck at using spray cans and i'd probably end up doing something similar. Still, it can happen with an airbrush and i also had to learn how to hold back on the spraying... several coats takes too long for my taste so i just spray one light coat, dry it up with the compressor's air and immediately give it another coat right after that, and then let it dry on it's own for over 24 hours. Has been working so far, no issues at all.

Re the clear/Microset issue, i've never had that on my models but i did screw up a couple of models on areas i've had to apply more Vallejo decal solution. It seemed to eat through the varnish and paint, and even if it didn't go through, it would at least stain and fade down the colors a bit.
Still, Microset has never given me any problems, even when i was using floor varnish for gloss clear... but i admit i've never applied such heavy coats of anything on my models. ;)
It seems that the yellow bits are where the clear was pooling but it is weird... i'm wondering if the red paint could cause that because it is more noticeable where the demarcation lines are... and on the decal, of course... I've had yellowed decals but the Microset even helped that out by cleaning some of the decals' yellowed old glue.

Problem is, it's only yellowing where I put microset and then the Sol. The red on the wings there is all transfer aside from a wee bit of red paint I put on the leading edge which didn't run and it if had it would have ran downwards to the bottom of the wing. The other places where I put red are fine, the red wing bottoms (sprayed red enamel from rattle can) and the fin ridge paint (hairy stick with acrylic). None of those areas have yellow because being paint, they didn't need microset. I just need to stop drowning things in clear. In my defense, it's easy to do because ...well, it's clear! lol. I never have this happen when spraying colors because it's easy to see.

It won't be long before I try again because I'm using the same stuff on my BAC-111. I'll use some Microset on one of the registry numbers but -this time- I'll layer my coats instead of splooging clear all over the place like a tool.  ;D :o ;D ;D   If it does it again, however, I'll look into different brand of clear to use if I also use Microset.

EDIT: confusion.  ;D

Ok, that sheds some light...  i think the yellow we see there, is the decal's old yellowed glue that was washed off the decals by the Microset, try putting a drop of microset on the white paint where there's no decal to see if that becomes yellow. If it doesn't, it proves the yellow is old glue from the decals that was dissolved by the Microset and the UV will probably make it disappear like our mate wrote on your blog.

Roger that!!  Good thinking. Glue... makes the best sense yet! Brilliant, dude.

I'll run the experiment on my poor BAC 111 (it's become a test-bed at least temporarily anyway so why not) and we'll science the hell out of this.  ;D   It sucks when things get messed up but still, there's merit to doing this stuff to get to the bottom of it all. In fact, I may try it sooner than later because I need to sand it down anyway so I can spray a portion of it back white, then throw some microset and microsol on it and gloss it and see what happens. It if turns pissy on me, it won't matter, because I'm sanding it off anyway. This sounds like some good after lunch activity to keep me busy.

EDIT: well, I'll have to let the white paint dry, of course.. but then the rest is as planned. It's obvious but I thought I'd mention it.  ;D So, I'll START the experiment this after noon but finish it after the paint dries.

I'm glad we can help each other out with the sharing of experiences, two heads are always better than one, some say... ;D
I say it's the glue cause it's what i had on the Airfix F6F Hellcat i bought off a PoAF Staff-Sargent. The kit was old as it was and the decals i tried to use, would simply disintegrate coming off the paper, and the couple of them which i did manage to use, had a thin layer of that glue that started coming off when i rubbed it.

A few months later, i had another set of old decals that had the same yellowed glue and i did use microset on those and the yellow glue was coming off like it was dissolved by the microset.
This was my experience and i'm glad if it can help you in any way, but i have to admit, i've never used the SOL, only the SET so i'm not sure that, if by being stronger, the SOL would cause a different reaction. Trial and error is the name of the game, right?

Finally managed to sort out the pics of my visit to Paris-Le Bourget air and space museum, Quite a few war birds there, for anyone interested, here's the link to the album: https://imgur.com/a/B0PCL1R
You'll find bad pics but of a good variety of subjects.  ;D

Glad you like them, bro.
I guess you're right, and the thought has crossed my mind so i guess i should look for a nice kit of that bird...

Well, i've got the F-16 in front of me and was thinking about giving it a panel line wash but i have been questioning the look of the wash on such small scales... Not sure if i wanna do it on the two models i'm finishing, cause these will be new birds, fresh off the paint shop so they shouldn't be weathered.
Still thinking about it but i'll probably end up skipping the wash, no dirt on these babies!  ;D
That said, all i have to do is to glue the small bits left and give it a matte coat to call if finished so, that's what i'll be doing tonight.

I can feel the excitement building... as you close in on the end of the model it's hard not to be a little stoked about it.  ;D  Since I won't be finishing mine today, I am instead gathering it from yours.  ;D

May as well skip the wash if you don't really want it because I weathered my last one, and I normally don't, so there is still balance in the force and it won't matter.

Or whatever smooth BS that pays the bills!  ;D ;D ;D

Yes, the force is still in balance, i didn't wash it so no worries there... but i haven't finished it yet..
Did get the landing gear in place and finished painting all the missiles and the targeting pod so i'll be working on those today.

Looking good

Thanks, Chris!

I gave it a good matte coat and glued the missiles on the pylons tonight, it's almost ready. Just have to glue the targeting pod on the intake, the pitot tube and remove canopy masks...

And as i was spraying matte varnish, i also sprayed a good coat of it on the Raptor and that one only needs to be put up on it's stand...

Only minor details to go, both will have formation lights painted after all is assembled so, i'm finishing these 2 tomorrow as soon as i get home from work! :drink:

So, the Phantom's next but i'm thinking of starting something else as well, just have to decide what...

Thank you, Mr. Wombat! Glad you like them!

I've been thinking of what will be the next one on the bench along with the Phantom and one keeps coming up, the Airfix 1/72 F2H-2 Banshee. If that one is chosen, it'll be finished as a Portuguese Navy bird, flying out of the first aircraft carrier in Portuguese service...
