I love the paint on the phantom but I had to admit to wanting to see the F-5 more.  It's difficult, they're both two of my favorite jets.   ;D

Same here, brotha, they're two of my favorites, that's why i wanna finish both at around the same time and also, because i want to enter them in my regional modelling association's first /show/contest in November. It will be a national event and lots of modellers from other areas of the country have already registered to participate so it will have a nice turnout of people and models.
It will be the second show i attend to and the first time participating but i was thinking of asking for a separate table and maybe do a "Alternative PoAF" display and also to have most of my whif builds there along with the forum's logo to represent our community there...
What do you guys think?

Ok, haven't had a lot of time for modelling related affairs but here are a few pics of what i've been doing. I can say that Hataka paint set was a good buy, i like their paint, works good for me.

Family pic with it's big brother...  ;D

Very satisfied with how this is coming out, can't wait to finish it!

Looking good

Glad you like them, Chris!

A detail regarding the different colors, i used Tamiya colors only on the F-4 and Hataka on the F-5. The most different was the one i had to mix which was the brown, didn't get it right but i think it doesn't look bad, though. That's why i bought the Hataka colors, no mixing needed.
OTOH, i have to say i got a bit frustrated with the camouflage grey, which, IMHO, looks like it's too dark. I'm not sure if it was because i had black basing and as the paint was matt and the paint was thin, it needed way more paint than what i gave it but it never got even close to what looks to me like an off white of the SEA camo. I resorted to spraying some XF-2 white over it in lights coats to get it closer to the real thing.
I've always had this feeling that some companies have some weird tones for that grey and also for the underside color of the F-16's normal 3 grey scheme, some seem too dark. Maybe it's just me but it looks like it's almost white...   :banghead:
On the Tiger's aft fuselage i used XF-56 metallic grey on the exhaust pipes then covered the whole aft area with a light coat of Vallejo's acrylic metal color Aluminum, then i highlighted the areas between the rivet rows with XF-56 again, then i sprayed another light coat of aluminum. From what i see in most pics, this area normally doesn't show much color variation due to heat or dirt so i didn't try any other colors on it.

Been sorting out the markings for it too, the are bits from 5 different decal sheets, including the serial numbers which i still have to put on the sun light to see if i can get the yellow to go away... Those numbers would be ideal but i have more in reserve anyway so big deal.
The roundels come from a 1/72 sheet but they're perfect for the size that would be painted on any F-5s intake, just like it was on the T-38 Talon.

I've been wanting to build this one for a long time, inspired by Paulo Alegria's interpretation of the Republic's diary info...

Gorgeous, no doubt but, i still think it could do with a good set of teeth...
Still regarding the decals, i think i'm going to mask and paint the fin flash on cause all the decals i have are way too thick and i think it's something simple enough to do and will look much better.

Yes, put the mouth on 'er.

Wait... that didn't come out right. Whatever.

Concur about the fin flash! I've stopped using certain decals at various points and opted to paint instead if it's easy enough. Sometimes the lazy bone gets me though.

;D
I've looked around and besides two of the original US navy aggressor scheme, i have one for a Fiat G-91 that is easily adaptable on the Tiger's nose. If i choose to put a mouth on it, that will most likely be my choice because of the black outline instead of red from the Agressor mouth.
The PoAF's fin flash is pretty easy to mask and paint, especially in 1/48. I just have to line it up on each side but that shouldn't be too difficult. I'll be trying it soon.

I'd throw a grill on every aircraft I make if I could.

Someone else around here provided me this link and I'm going to buy it at some point.

Thanks!! That decal sheet is now on my watch list!
I love aircraft with a smile so, why not have them whites on everything i build? ;D ;D

Meanwhile, I think we've found where the Carpet Monster's been hiding!

;D what an ugly beast the carpet monster is!

I'm just finishing my lunch break wondering if there's any Spitfire scheme with a sharkmouth... Off to Google to see if I can find any pics...

Edit: Already found a few and again, another plane that looks great with a set of teeth on it!

A few, including a well known RAAF Mk VIII. There's a few transfer sheets for it.

"Grey Nurse" & Eduard do at least 2 versions of it (1/72 & 1/48). ;)
