Last month I was helping my friend move his car repair workshop. He specialises in Land Rovers and had a small unit in what used to be a cow shed that he's now outgrown so we moved everything across the yard to a full size barn (60ft by 150ft-ish) with built-in office, kitchen and toilet.

This meant moving lathes and drills with a gas powered fork lift and watching Dave dash round the yard on it was scary. Getting the centre of gravity right on a metal bench with a power drill mounted on one end was interesting especially as it had to be manoeuvred sideways first to fit thru the door. At one point he lowered it on my boot and the steel toecap absorbed the full weight. I need a new pair now...

I think we threw out about a ton of scrap metal, wood, furniture and broken tools in the process. 
Great weekend for the 3 of us. He bought us a great Chinese takeout as compensation

Far out! I used to drive a forklift down the city streets puffing on reefers. (There for about a week I had to move product from the main building to another one 4 blocks away) This was many moons ago. One time OSHA showed up and I was riding around on the thing with NO SEAT. The seat was messed up so I took it off to have it reupholstered and ... well... didn't have any option but to drive it with no seat/seat belts. Sitting on the safety switch was uncomfortable.  I hopped off real quick when OSHA showed up. We broke so many rules. lmao

No seat??? That's nuts! 
It's cool little thing to drive and operate but there are plenty of dangers, especially under 3/4 box pallets with 390 kg each over your head...
Man, these past two weeks have been interesting, to say the least... It's been a learning curve and it's on the busiest season of the year for this industry so, i have to keep up with guys that have been doing it for years... i do try to keep up but i'm still much slower than the other two kids that works and the youngest has been doing it for 3 years now so, i'll just take my time to prevent accidents.

Modelling related news, i've finished painting the Hobbyboss Huey and it's on to clear, decals, etc. Also, my second Blue Thunder kit has been delivered and it's going straight to the bench. I've been wanting to build one for so long and now that i have a second kit, i'll leave one for a later date and maybe better skills and get one done ASAP! 

Sounds like you've de-stressed and are enjoying the new gig, albeit with the curve.  Happy for you!  Driving lifts is pretty fun until you get way down the road and wind up doing ultra-repetitive stuff but even then.... you're seated and comfy for the most part so it's a pretty sweet job.

I never tore anything up I don't think... well, wait... I think I might have knocked out a light bulb way up high once but that was $3. I've seen other people totally wreck stuff with the things, though. Going way back to about 2000 when I was working on a national cemetery we were making crypts all day and were driving these very large big-tire offroad heavy duty fork trucks (whatever the hell they are called) to tote the heavy concrete things around. This one jackass that would drink on the job one day ran over a set of those oxygen and acetylene torch bottles......  another time, another drunken idiot that would drink on lunch was pretty lit up when he was on a sky-track (girraffe version of forklift) and confused a shipping container for a roll-off dumpster and REPEATEDLY hauled trash and piled it up on top of the container, smashing it down even. Dipshit did the job to completion and dented up the roof of the container and it was later someone else noticed the mistake(this was back in 2005 when I did framing). Then in 2007 when I was working as a warehouse manager in flooring warehouse.... this guy Ron was super aloof. He wasn't drunk or stoned or anything, just loose-headed. This dude smashed stuff on the regular. Entire light fixtures, product, shelves, etc. lmao   ONE DAY..... he dropped a pallet of tile that weighed the same as a large car from about 20 feet up and it flipped upside down and smashed to the concrete. It was about that time TPTB basically forbid him from the thing and put me in charge of it. This was the same place with no seat when OSHA showed up. ANYWAY......     keep your eyes on your coworkers; no telling what interesting stories you might gather just as I have!

Owning (and driving) two Land Rovers, I can tell your friends's got him self a pretty solid earner in that workshop. There's ALWAYS something to mend or fix.

Then again - as the saying goes - A Land. Rover is never fully functioning, yet never totally broken either..

Well, Brad, you sure have gathered some interesting stories on forklifts... Brother, those dudes are nuts, alcohol is not something to be had when working with those machines... or any other machine, for that matter!
Too much risk for me, i'm glad i'm not too friendly with alcoholic drinks or it could be a problem for sure.
I can say that i've been working there for a few weeks now and already have seen and had a few situations, but let's just leave it at that for now...

So, back to plastic, it's time for the Blue Thunder!!!
I'm putting everything else on hold cause i'm so excited that i'll finally be building a BT! Already took some parts off the sprues and cleaned them up, mainly the cockpit bits but haven't glued anything together yet...
It's big thing but it is in fact, a slightly longer Gazelle helicopter in 1/32 scale... still, the 1/48 apache is as big or even slightly longer than the 1/32 Gazelle/BT.
I wanted to get the Huey finished before i began the BT so that i could just concentrate on that. Now that it's done, photographed and in the display cabinet, i'm ready for the mean BT.
I have been pondering buying a turned brass aftermarket gatling gun to replace the kit's part but i'm not sure about the size and have had a hard time finding the measures for the parts i've been considering. If i can't be sure, i guess i'll just order the one that seems to me more likely to be around the same size as the BT kit's part for the gun. Don't think i'll be adding any more aftermarket... well, maybe a couple of figure could be cool...
I probably won't start a new topic for the BT but i'll keep you guys updated on this thread.

Per the rest, seems you're smitten with helos BIG TIME.      I saw the glorious new wares in the stash thread and I nearly watched Blue Thunder on Prime earlier.     I think I'm being subconsciously motivated by your efforts or something.

  IMHO, the Blue Thunder is an awesome machine, i love the look of the beast. This one will be OOB but I do have ideas to whif it up a bit...
Regarding my work ethics, colleagues are your mates so there has to be a good relationship with them or things won't work well.

Surprisingly, no.
It was a rental and landed on its side.  I broke the side window and buckled the ROPS in the process.  It would have needed a replacement ROPS which wouldn't have been cheap but the bosses comment was "that's why I pay insurance".  I suffered a small cut on my arm from the glass and was shaken up.
I've seen worse in my time doing OH&S.  Like a 25 ton dump truck on it's side in a creek and two tipper (road) trucks which collided head on, passenger side to passenger side.  No one died on site under my watch though which was a good thing.

Various people here have tried to build brass gatlings.  I am sure they will be along soon to report their thoughts.
I have used some very fine resin barrels which were IMO perfectly adequate.

That could've ended much worse, Fred. Glad it didn't get you too hurt or in trouble. And your boss is right, insurance is payed for the accidents and machines can be replaced.

I have read that the brass gatlings can be quite a pain to build right... That's one of reasons why I'm not sure about it. They're cheap so I guess I'll try my luck. The worst problem is that I'm also not sure if the size will be correct to fit the Kit's part....

I am indeed, they're a part of my childhood and also a big part of my love for aircraft. When I was around 5/6 years old, my dad took me to the PoAF's show in my hometown. It had a static display with an A-7P and an Sa-330 Puma chopper and that was my first time inside an aircraft and a cockpit.  Sweet memories... i've bought almost every chopper model i wanna build so it's time to get them done.
