I have a few times and got nothing but abuse from some of the members on there for even mentioning the fact that they aren't giving any credit to the owners of the photos and the sites they find the photos.

And if I see the words 'FAIR USE' one more time...... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Guess it's time to start applying an intrusive copyright watermark directly in the centre of any photo before posting.

Well, remember the abuse and shennanigans that went on here when the profilers were told to credit the originals of their artworks?

Too me it just proves that once you post ANYTHING to the web you have absolutely no control of where it goes, and you should have no expectation of privacy, discretion or credit.  Yes all those things would be nice, but we should not surprised.  I remind my kids of that often.

If our builds and profiles get a wider exposure and cause a certain discomfort to rivet counters and purists- that can't all be bad....

Yeap, i only find it irksome if somebody attempts to pass off of our builds as their own, or fail to correct somebody who congradulates them for the build

Just had a similar case at YouTube. Some nerd put together lots of (crappy!) vids about military vehicles, much like a slide show. Was amazed to find some model pics of mine (without asking or any permisson, of course ), in a rather unpleasant context (Naz! alert). Currently trying to get the stuff away from the screen.

If (and IME thieves are generally lazy) the image thief links from your photobucket (or whatever) then changing the photo there will also change it on farcebok (or wherever).
So (obviously after amending any links to here) if you replace your handcrafted twin turboprop Spitfire biplane helicopter gunship photo with a horses bottom (say) then that could be amusing.

I'm afraid that I cynically assume that some irritating  dolt somewhere is going to pirate anything I post anywhere on the web.  This sort of ungentlemanly behaviour has been going on for centuries........ the Roman writer Tacitus  complained about  unauthorised copies of his work and  Geoffrey Chaucer is supposed to have grumbled about people pirating his Canterbury Tales.

On a more pleasant note, I'm sure that all of us would love to see your "handcrafted twin turboprop Spitfire biplane helicopter gunship"   when it appears.......retractable or spatted undercarriage?

Okay, so there's a Facebook group that reposts pics of whifs without giving proper credit by naming the maker or linking to the source. How is that different from reposting pics without proper credit in the "WHIF's you have found" sub-section on this here site?  ;)
Cheers,

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

That's correct, and a good point.

A link from the source page should be added - that might also make it easier to find background info.

Just looked at that one. That particular build was done by one of our former members from Texas - Sotoolslinger.

My two pence worth ?

Unless the poster is claiming the work as their own I really don't worry about it. ChernayaAkula's point about posts on here is a very good one and just goes to show how easy it is to do and after all 99% of it isn't malicious ? Life's to short

Agree. "It depends", one might say. But proper (n)etiquette should call for a source if a web picture is linked or shared - otherwise I should not post them at all (in fact, they legally belong to the platform where I post them).

buse of the media without permission is another thing, though. I personally do not worry much about my online pics being re-posted, e. g. in other forums. But it becomes twisted when I find "my" material as product pics on ebay (and the item itself is rather a dubious copy, not an original - big issue with anime figures!), or as a part of another person's video on youtube which puts the pic in a doubtful content - one that I'd never allow. There's no black or white, rather lots of shades of grey. But I'll follow Nils' suggestion and try to add sources from now on whenever possible.
