I had the chance to go to several interesting museums lately, several of which had aviation collections.  I'll be heading to Oshkosh soon for a return visit to theirs, and hope to go to others soon, but for now, I hope you'll enjoy these:

Hiller Aviation Museum, San Carlos, CA

Just south of SFO is this nice museum.  Had to go through in a rush since we had to catch a flight, but it is well worth a couple of hours.

Fort Hood, TX- two unit museums with mainly land artifacts, but some aircraft.

Texas Military Museum- a great place on a base in Austin, TX.  Mostly armor, and Texas unit history, but a few planes and helos out front and inside.

200 ft span? MY kind of airplane!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Not sure if these count as small or not but I only got a flying visit to them so they were small temporally for me...

From the USAF Armaments Museum and USS Alabama Park, I missed out on the Naval Aviation museum Pensacola much to my distress. Whilst I love taking pictures of aircraft flying I still cant quite make statics look good so these are a little bit... abstract...

The engine shots by the way, are of a TF30 sat outside, behind the shed by the bow of the sub, at the USS Alabama. Lots interesting bits and pieces of aircraft and weapons just rusting away.

Cheers guys. I didn't get to go on the Alabama as we arrived just after last entry but there is a lot of kit you can just wander around.

Ya the outdoor displays are a lot bigger than I thought ! Excellent stuff, and it looks like they have gotten serious and moved some other stuff indoors.

I have a thread around here of my Florida Rod trip that has my pics from our trip. That boat will be next time

North Carolina has at least three, I have visited two of them.

North Carolina Aviation Museum and Hall of Fame
2222-G Pilots View Rd.  Asheboro, NC 27205  On the field at the Asheboro Regional Airport
Nice little museum on the field of the Asheboro Regional Airport.  It is off NC49 and I would advise using a GPS to navigate there.

Carolina's Aviation Museum
4672 First Flight Drive Charlotte, NC 28208.   It is at Charlotte Douglass International Airport.
Nice displays of both civilian and military aircraft.  When I was there they had a DC-3 painted in Piedmont Airlines colors.   According to their website they have an Eastern DC7 awaiting a replacement engine and a Delta DC-9.

Western North Carolina Air Museum
1340 Gilbert Street Hendersonville, NC.
Never been to it. Website lists a number of small aircraft
