The "clouds of dust" was just a metaphor for doing lots of PSR. Just cleaning up the sanded areas prior to possibly re-scribing lost detail  this is not something that I usually do much of as its so easy to make a mess of things so near the end.

Slight problem last night. When giving the model a light was and a scrub with a softish toothbrush to remove dust etc from engraved detail, one of the ECM fairing came off an intake. Not a big problem, just a PITA.

No chance of that Captain, I was in the kitchen and the floor there is linoleum or rather its modern equivalent. A touch of PSR today as I found after washing that there were a few places requiring a touch more filler.

Some of these might be handy for some of your Phantom builds where you don't want outer wing tanks

That's just the ticket Thorvic, now for a centre line pylon on its own and I will be able to hang anything from anywhere on an F-4

Second round of PSR is almost complete. If I am very careful I think I can get away with using white primer for the colour scheme, now I wonder if Halfords Grey Plastic Primer is close enough to the upper surface colour? I still have the under wing aerials to add prior to painting the model though.

The under-fuselage/under-wing aerials have been scratch built. A little too thick I think but I am not going to much around with plastic strip to make more. A very fiddly job, mind you I only temporarily lost one to the carpet monster out of the four I was building.

Photographs of the added aerials

First an example of what I was making, the metal part in the picture is the nose of a pair of self gripping tweezers.

Now the aerials in no particular order

I'm not 100% happy about the location of the aerials under the intakes, I am going to be double checking my reference's to see if I need to move them. Once I am happy with those parts it's on with the painting if I have finished the fuel tanks by then, hope so.

Found an interesting problem earlier while putting the halfs of under wing tanks together for my F-4L build. With the base kit being a Fujimi UK Phantom I was going to use the tanks supplied with the kit. However I found that for one tank the half which does not have the pylon on it was for the wrong side as the Fujimi tanks have the full pylon mounded to one side and a recess for the pylon on the other side. The parts I have consist of two recessed halfs exactly the same while the halfs with the pylons each have their tank halfs on opposite sides so the no pylon tank parts should have their recesses on opposite end of the tank!
Fortunately I have some spare Hasegawa fuel tanks which I will use instead.

You've far better eyesight them me mate, mind you so have 90% of the population.

Great attention to detail
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

After rechecking one of my references I have decided that I need to reshape the aerial under the starboard intake as it should be vertical rather than at an angle as it is at the moment  :banghead:

The error has been corrected.

This is a clearer picture although it was difficult to tell what angle the aerial was at from previous pictures in this build thread.

Other work has been done as well. The external fuel tanks have had their rear locating pins removed and replaced with lengths of plastic rod in locations that match the existing locating holes in the undersides of the wings and lower fuselage.

This means that the airframe is Fujimi but the rest is Hasegawa as even the wheels are from Hasegawa seeing that their kits provide both thin and thick wheels. Unfortunate that the majority of Phantoms used the thicker wheel so I don't have many spares to swap with the Fujimi ones.

I hope to spray the majority of the aircraft white tomorrow but as I have a funeral to go to I don't know if that will happen. I also have to think about painting the weapons too. Not often I have been doing that!
