A bit more progress. Its starting to look the part now.

I did try to cover up the over-painting of the Grey on top of the white, didn't work out  :banghead: Did consider that I was using Appliance white and so it could be quite tough. Gentle scraping with a scalpel proved that I could remove the grey acrylic paint from the flaps and the left side of the rudder so I will have to take care of the right side of the rudder once the extra white paint dries.

It still looks as if the paint has been put on with a palette knife though  :-\

Just take the photos from a little further back ;) Looking great!

And if you want to do this a bit bigger, Hong Kong Models (of 1/32 B-25 and B-17 fame) is teasing a Spey Phantom on Facebook...

That's why wet and dry paper was invented, and I'm forever grateful for that!

I am probably being over critical about my own work. I will wait and see what it looks like once I get the metal work at the rear done and it's ready for decals.

Just found out that 2/3 of the undercarriage was not fully painted. I need to be able to sit it on it's feet as it wore when I decal her so this machine may not be ready for the Glasgow show.  :banghead:

Argh ! Don't you hate it when a small oversight turns into a large one !

Now I am starting to make a mess of detail painting on this build. Think I will put this model on hold for now and finish it off later at a much more relaxed pace.

Yup sometimes when you take a step back it goes so much more quickly when you start on the project again
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Gondor

Started to apply decals today!

Ended up using non standard Star and Bars for the build as the ones I was intending to use looked a little bit yellow rather than being a nice crisp white  :banghead:

The part I am really putting off is adding the red/white checks at the base and top of the fin that Kit printed off for me as getting them just right could be a right PITA so I suppose I had better get them done and out of the way  :-\

Does anyone know of a good site for serial numbers for US aircraft so I can look for a convincing number to put on the aircraft?

Check here for Bureau Numbers (BuNo), considering the DoD doesn't standardize serials across the Department.  Hope it helps

That's a very useful and awesome site. I've used it before and it's super handy, so long as you dig deep enough and get to understand it.

You could look to see if some of the cancelled UK aircraft were assigned BU numbers

This is a great site for all UK serials, including cancelled aircraft like the F-111 and TSR.2: http://www.ukserials.com/
