In the book "Nimrod's Genesis", the Vickers VC10 is mentioned in great detail as a maritime reconnaissance alternitive to the projects of OR.350 (pages 114-135) OR.357 (pages 136-155).
The Air Staff in early September 1963 drew up a list of possible types or rather, a list of categories from which an OR.357 aircraft could be drawn.
Derivatives of existing aircraft-Maritime variants of the VC10 and Trident is mentioned in the list.
S & M Models do arrange of 1/144 conversions for the Airfix VC10 kit, Anigrand and Magna do a resin 1/72 and Airways the vacform 1/72 which is a rare kit to find. RAM Models also do the VC10 in 1/72.
But if you wait patiently enough one will appear on that well known auction site.
The Chris Gibson book has many lined drawings of the possible Whiffs that can be built, one proposal caught my eye on page 188. To use a pannier grafted from a Nimrod onto a VC-10, I would remove the rear engines and replace them with underwing pylon mounted engines, just to be different.

I had a plan to put the Nimrod pannier under a Vulcan --- but then I had a better idea -- put the Vulcan wings and cockpit fairing onto a Nimrod fuselage --- gives you a bigger diameter fuselage for all the equipment and people to operate it.

The Nimrod with Vulcan wings works, as I tried to build a civil airliner version.

There will be pictures, this time. This phone is on its last legs, the touch screen has its moments and the on/off switch is temperamental.
As to the Nimrod/Vulcan build it got trashed but I have seen Vulcan wings on eBay. Still got a few kits to build before I can start this idea and the DC-6B ASW. I'll reserve Tuesdays as paint days, that reminds me must get in touch with the Model Show held in Islington and see if I can get a table.

With pylon mounted engines under a Nimrod bomb bay-ed VC10 you'd need to have much longer landing gear, and that means the main gear would need to be mounted much further out under the wings. Not as straightforward as it might seem at first sight.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Further reading of Chris Gibsons' book chapter "Trinity" comes up with a whole host of VC10 MR drawings and ideas that Vickers proposed to the Air Ministry. Even a swing-wing variant. The B-1B might be too big but the Tu-22m3 wings-engines-undercarriage and weapons bay could make for an interesting kitbash.
Suggestions of using a three engine layout similar to the Trident but with RR Spey or even Conway engines.
Another idea would be to build the Vickers-Armstrong Type 1000 (VC7) using the Valiant or Vulcan wings/engines attached to the VC10 fuselage. By using the Vulcan wings the basic shape of the Avro 722 Atlantic.
