Side by side ee lightning

well you either end up with something like the CAC Ca-23 Australian contemporary to the Javelin or the original Shenyang F-8 Finback
.

If you went for side intakes and a conventional nose you could use the Trumpeter Finback B with Lightning wings and tail surfaces.

the CA-23! thats the one ive been trying to remember!

I think Id like to stick with the normal nose.  Im going to try a bit of drawing manipulation this evening to get an idea of what im looking for! (and maybe some model shopping)

I dont think the CA-23 kit is currently available, I was lucky to get hold of one the batch that Greg talked Uncle Les into doing. And judgeing by the amount of rubber still attached to the casts, its one of the last out of the moulds before they gave up the gost

1 x hasegawa lightning ordered £7 from amazon.  I understand its a poor kit but with what I am planning to do with it thats not at all important!

not so poor, It looks like a lightning. Just long in the tooth as kits go.

I've got a plan to do that, was going to use a 1/48 Lightning front end then blend in two 1/72 rear fuselages, then the plan was to use the 1/48 wings.  Problem arose soon after I obtained a 1/48 Lightning to do it, 1/48 is just too big for the idea, really need something around 1/60 scale.
Have you tried a 1/48 MiG-21 instead?

Can also work with a the Trumpeter Su-15. ;D

I was hoping to use the 1/48 wings, of course they're simple enough I could just scratch build them ---  :unsure:

That would be interesting with a shoulder-mounted layout, so that the Lightning undercarriage could be kept? Would look weird, but cool...  :thumbsup:

Reminds me that I have a Hasegawa Lightning and at least one PM Su-15 in the pile somewhere.

Just my 2c but I think you should keep the nose intake and as much English Electric fuselage as possible otherwise it becomes an SU-15 (or whatever you use) with Lighting wings rather than a flat Lightning.

Certainly. For a "Flat Lightning" the Su-15 fuselage is not the best option, and I have major doubts that the rather vertical diameter shape can be sensibly integrated into a side-by-side fuselage. It's very tall.
If it is to look serious the fuselage should IMHO also feature some area-ruling around the waist. The aforementioned Chinese J-8I would be a very good option, but there's no kit - only for the J-8II with side intakes and a solid nose cone. Grafting a Lightning nose to that is a big transplantation, you'd need to get rid of the box-shaped intakes and probably bridge some inches in front of the wings - IMHO also not a smart move, but feasible. But then there's also the question of where top put the wings and the landing gear. Shoulder-mounted? Low? I think you could rather glue a Lightning nose onto a MiG-23...

Its doable i think using either a flagon or a finback for the rear fuselage, build a spine to form the central basis for the forward fuselage, housing the cockpit nose gear and radar, then use fitter or late mig 21 to form the outer fuselage with a bit of tweaking to ensure taper to a lightning intake ring and radar. Use spine, canopy wings and tail from lightning kit.

I've been pondering this.  I think if I was doing it i'd take 2 identical Lightning kits and cut the fuselages horizontally along a line drawn between the centre of the intake and the mid point between the 2 exhausts.  I'd then join the 2 bottom halves.
Turn it through 90 degrees and call what were the fat bellies pannier tanks.  Glue the wings and horizontal tails on the sides half way up and the graft on one of the dorsal spines and vertical tail from a left over top half, cutting a hole for the cockpit and dropping in a scratched up tub.  Retain the original main undercarriage and cut a hole under the cockpit for the nose wheel.  PSR for about 6 months and then paint it silver.
