So a Former River Class Monitor converted to a crane ship by the Dutch . It escaped to Britain and was then sent to Murmansk to help with the Artic convoys .

As it will be in Murmansk I'll probably add some more AA .

I'm thinking HMS Camel as there was a mortar vessel converted into a crane lighter by that name and the RN does like it's history.

Would the craft had been built in Birkenhead by any chance?

The Mortar Vessel, I don't know . River class monitors I believe we're built by Vickers at Barrow. There was a surprising lack of names connected to cranes to pick from that weren't being used.

If I'm thinking what you're thinking, we  are both  assuming that HMS  Camel  had as a sister ship HMS Laird.
