We all love to search for and buy model kits. But sometimes, there are models we don't have that are very, very old, difficult, rare, etc.  to get a hold of for various reasons that we wished we had them in our collections. What "holy grail" model kits are you looking for?

My two I'm still searching for:
Old Monogram 1/48 F-19 Stealth Fighter
Old Testors 1/48 Stingbat LHX Stealth Helicopter
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

I`ve got that F-19 Stealth that I`m prob never going to build......do I have to hide it so you can find it ?

RAFF-35

Not one, but two Miku 1:72 AH-56 Cheyenne would be the only kits I'd want, worthy of a mention here
Don't let ageing get you down, it's too hard to get back up

The Wooksta!

Oddly, I had both the Italeri 48th Stingbat and the Miku Cheyenne but sold them on to other members of this 'ere parrish.

The latter was a copy of the Aurora Cheyenne, which I suspect is a lot easier to find.  IIRC, Anigrand have done a resin one which is superior.

My holy grails:

Titan Find Blake's 7 "Scorpio" - never had the money but when I did they'd finally sold out.

G-Modelle (v.obscure German cottage outfit) Blohm und Voss Bv 142 Airliner.

Way back, MAP Publications (in co-operation with IPMS UK, so they say) produced the fifth edition of "Scale Plastic Kits of the World 1971."
This came free with Scale Models magazine, you had to cut it and join it. Mine i9s sewn together.

One kit is featured in it which I have never heard of anywhere, but

I would love to know if it really existed,
and
if it did I want one, or maybe two.

OTAKI    Lockheed U-2    1/100 scale.

Otaki C-5 Galaxy 1/144, but I'm not paying the crazy prices when one pops up.  Way over $100 for a cheap, small injection kit- no way.

Geocache....that would be fun !

As per the original query, not really sure. Prob somat I saw when I was a kid as my father used to have a pretty good collection of RCAF aeroplanes.

It was, I was one of the team members that compiled it, and a right pain it was too!

I have an idea a friend of mine has a 1/100 U-2, I'll ask him if it's an Otaki.

I have one of the Otaki Galaxies in The Loft, but I wouldn't say it was small, it's the same size as a 1/144 747, which means it's 1/72 Lancaster size.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Lucky you!  Agree it is not small- bad choice of words, I just can't justify the expense to myself, or if I did buy one Mrs. Sandiego89 might get some ideas and have to buy something to counter it  <_<

Ditto on the 1/48 Monogram F-19 and 1/144 Otaki C-5. :) Resin scares the living crap out of me.

I would have said the 1/72 Monogram F-16XL until one came up for sale on eBay. It's the single seater, not too sure if Monogram did the two seater kit.

Then there is the Airmodel vacform 1/72 HS Nimrod with the upgrade Mk2 conversion kit. Got my paws on one of them as well, so it must be the vacform 1/72 VC-10. Which I'm still waiting to be delivered.

No Monogram just did the single seater F-16XL kit in 72nd.
Fomaplane did the HS Nimrod MR1, Aircraft in Miniature re-issued it with the MR2 conversion set (Although can't think why as the Airfix kit is far easier to work with )
The Airways VC-10 is due for re-release by RAM Models later this year, and the rest of the former Airways lines are likely to follow
