I made these a while ago......my thinking at the time was the RAF would take any fighters to stem the onslaught  of the Luftwaffe.....these P39's where fully equipped and where under strict orders to not cross the channel......they were armed with a 20mm cannon firing through the spinner and a pair of nose mounted .50s and a similar weapon in a gondola under each wing...much harder hitting than either the Spitfire or Hurricane........they were great upto 13,000ft.......faster than most below this altitude.........they dealt with low level raiders and would pick off those damaged at higher level and came down to escape........the markings if i remember were from a Defiant sqn.......i may make some more for the GB...

Cool.

I've been thinking about a Norseman in Coastal Command colours for rescue purposes.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Cool idea for the Norseman, Fred - g'wan, you know you wanta...  ;D

The Airacobra was something I felt wasn't played around with enough by the RAF - a whacking great cannon* in the nose just cries out to be used as a first or second-generation ground attack on 'Rhubarbs', but maybe they thought they had too many types on hand already... Yes they weren't too good at altitude, but this was well known and could have been worked around.

*20mm wasn't that 'whacking great', but I think they should have kept the 37mm also.

Still, in Our WhiffWorld, as we well know they were used to remarkable effect by the RAF...  ;)

Nice stuff Hank

I've a soft spot for the P-39 and have built 5 or 6 of the nice Academy kits. Likewise I thought of it as a ground attack aircraft and my RAF one ended up in the Western Desert where it's 37mm made mincemeat of all that Italian armour. Wasn't to gentle on the German stuff either
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Army of One

I read the Russians liked it and it was able to look after itself under 14,000ft......where most of the combat took place......which was my reason behind the build......unofficial sqn nickname was "The Bottom Feeders......"

Only one taker?  I am disappointed.  Sorry, you're wrong Nighthunter.  If Zenrat would like to provide his contribution?
