I remember the BBC documentary on RAF single seat pilot training. The first phase of selection was to see how they sat in a standard bath tub. If the had to bunch their legs....sorry, try for transports

I'd be OK (short legs).  Eyesight's a different matter.

I have really long legs -- I'd be screwed.
That being said, I'd like to remind everybody in a manner reminiscent of the SNL bit on Julian Assange, that no matter how I die: It was murder (even if there was a suicide note or a video of me peacefully dying in my sleep); should I be framed for a criminal offense or disappear, you know to blame.

In the front seat of a Tornado, and sitting on a correct chute pack, my kneecaps were under the edge of panel so if I'd have ejected I'd have had no kneecaps afterward!

Captain Canada

I can do laps in a bathtub, but when I sat in that F-100 cockpit this summer I couldn't believe how cramped that was ! Then again, so was the 104 a few years back. Would have taken some getting used to being crammed in like that for hours !

It'd get pretty cramped piloting any aircraft for hours where you couldn't get up and stretch your legs.
Do pilots of the smaller combat aircraft get trained in DVT avoiding leg exercises for use on long flights?

looking good, re squadron allocations, the ONLY ones noted in files at the PRO. at Kew are No.237 OCU. for training of flight crews, No.40 as initial strike squadron, and No.13 scheduled to have worked up in the reconnaissance/strike role, ALL others are speculative and not supported by any official documentation other than looking at probable dates where previous types were to be retired, etc.

cheers, Joe

Thanks for all the input guys. I think I`m going to stick to 40 Sqn.

Lets face it, it`s a whif, so I`m not that bothered about it as we could speculate till the cows come home.

Anyway, in other exciting news.....

The light kit for the after burner effect arrived today and is in great working order.

Of course while this picture shows you the electronics and the fact that the light work, it`s never going to show you the `effect`.

Cue You Tube Link.....,

If something like this appeals to you, then head over to the Tirydium Models web site and look at their lighting kits.

Wow ! That`s a great idea and thanks for the link. I could see an Avro Arrow blasting off like that ! What an awesome display that would be around the house.

Tonight I`m going to see if I can produce the ring effect. Let`s see how that goes.
