Captain Canada

My big question now is to re-engine the B-17C/D with Merlins ? Chope the noses off 4 beautiful Spifire kits ? Use Lanc nacelles ? Some from the Shak as merlins with the radiators in the nacelle ?

hmmmm...and that Acadmey kit is nice...would look good OOB !

<_<

Why not take the engines from a P-40, the one with the Merlin rather than Alison engines? I am sure you could find some cheap kits to use. Would also give you the option of making them radial engined P-40's which could confuse the JMN's a bit.

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

Hmm....not a bad idea there ! The those are pretty cool nacelled to boot. But it may not look British enough, as I was also thinking of adding 48th scale Spit outer wings

A later version of this?  ;D

Twin-Wasp Hawk 81A (P-40B/C) re-engined by P & W and used for engine, cowling and exhaust design testing.
Evidently it regularly trounced Merlin powered P-40Fs stationed nearby.

I've a kit of that XP-31 (LF ?) Tiny aeroplane
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Captain Canada

Never seen that pic before pretty nice !

Looks like I'm adding a Hurricane to this list. Thanks Mossie ! Now I need some ideas for that one

Wasn't the hurricane the one they made an extra detachable wing for fuel

Or, what if when they switched to all metal wings on the Hurricane, in order to simplify production they used Spitfire wings?

Fred

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

 The Spitfire wing construction was more complicated than that of the Hurricane, and adapting that
thinner structure to the Hurricane fuselage would take more re-engineering than the relatively simple
redesign of the fabric-covered wing to metal-skinned, as the latter were basically the same under the skin.

Captain Canada

Good points. Thanks for the thoughts guys.

I'm thinking how cool 4 engines from a P-40 Warhawk would look on my B-17C. And having 8 guns firing off to deter head on attacks too
