Marking out where the gear will be. I used the kit legs, but cut off the bottom of the oleo and reattached it at a 90 degree, as they will retract that way.

Attached my rad to the Bf.55. I'm happy with the way this one turned out. You can also see where I glued the nose back on the D.520

Glued a piece of card in so I could get the join cleaner without a lot of work

Opened up the gear as I want this one to be sat on the ground. As I said before I'm not going to paint the underside, going to leave the boy's artwork down there

I DO like that Me-109.5. It has a certain 'something' to it.

Captain Canada

Thanks Kit ! Not sure where to go re: armament. Maybe a pair of guns in each wing ?

And a cannon firing through the airscrew. Plus you could always add some cowl guns like the 109-Gs had.

It reminds me of the Latecoère 298 floatplane?

Captain Canada

I kinda screwed up by not incorporating the cannons in the nose before I added the cowling. I guess I could have used a 109 engine but I wanted to use up the bits in this kit. Did they have cannons firing through the nose ? I guess I'll have to look into that. Maybe a pair of guns in each wing...I'm thinking a high altitude recon type maybe ?

Hell yes, almost all Me-109 versions had an engine mounted cannon AFAIK. That's the little tube thing on the centre of the spinner if you look closely.

Nice ! The 110 prop spinners have holes, so perfect ! It's funny tho, I was reading the instructions for the Airfix 109 and they make no mention og the cannon !

Loving the midge, if that's what you've decided it to be called  ;D although, they're all looking very good, this GB is going to be very tough
Don't let ageing get you down, it's too hard to get back up

Captain Canada

Thanks ! ya I started out with pretty much a 'paint kit different' attitude so I'm glad these came along !

I thought the same, until I was told recently that only from the F onward did the 109 have working engine mounted cannons. They'd been tried with the B and C, but were plagued by thermal and vibration problems, leading to the removal of most engine-mounted machine guns and cannons. The D and E never had them (a projected sub-variant of the Emil was supposed to get them, but these were never built).
Cheers,
Moritz

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

The hole in the spinner of the early 109s was for cooling.  Of what I can't remember.

For the Battle 110 single, how about a 4 gun turret?

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Captain Canada

Thanks for the tips regarding the cannon. I guess it wouldn't matter if they had them or not, as this one isn't a 109 and it's whif !

And I like that 4-gun turret idea, but I was thinking of doing that on a 109 to be more like the size of a defiant.

There was something I couldn't think of and that's it

As for an engine mounted gun I thought the E-3 had one ? Now the fact it was removed from the -4 could indicate that it didn't work properly but I've not read that anywhere. Mind you I've not got any books dedicated to the type, so something to bear in mind
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
