The RW Folgore first flew in August 1940 and entered service in July 1941.
But what if pre-production examples had been battle tested with Luftwaffe JagdGeschwader over the Channel and the Home Counties?

I'll be building one of these

and painting it almost as it should be but with a twist.  I want to do smoke rings but haven't decided whether to do the full German markings or just give it a yellow nose.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Hmmmm, maybe white or yellow bands across the wings with the balkenkreuz on top of them as though the Regia Aeronautica markings had been painted out.

Why not just have them in Italian markings, with Regia Aeronautica pilots flying beside their Luftwaffe counterparts?

They did elsewhere.

Gives you scope to imagine an Italian Western European camo scheme (incorporating smoke rings ;) ).

I like the smoke rings with German markings. The painted over idea would work as well, but it just sounds so different I think it would really stand out.

How about some sideways thinking? sand and spinach smoke rings just isn't going to cut it in the Northernish European theatre,
but if you want smoke rings (very Italian) why not replace sand with one of the German colours of the BoB? or to be more (less) precise,
an Italian version of said colour? either a Green (i suspect the smoke rings would be equivalent to the RLM 71? so a base of Black green 70
or the Italian equivalent and the lighter smoke rings over. or the Italian equivalent of Grey 02 with the smoke rings. :o and to finish it all off
Full Yellow RLM 04 theatre markings. (full yellow nose etc?
Just my idle thoughts....

Regards
Keith
The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

Captain Canada

Just like that ! After seeing that tho I think it would even better with a yellow nose.

Nice pic.  Thanks for all the input guys.
Much as I like the idea of a smoke ring scheme in RLM colours my smoke ring decals are printed in green on clear decal paper and so are a bit on the opaque side.  They really need to go over a lighter colour.

I think I agree with you Cap'n.  Although I may well change my mind after examining my paint choices.

I've a few sheets of Mike Grant smoke rings and have used them over a light grey before and they looked good ? So over one of the Luftwaffe light grey's or even the Italian underside grey ?
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Do 2 ins make and out?
2 inns make the start of good night out in my book...
;D

I did some gluin' today.
Fuselage halves together and wings on.  While it looks great on the sprues (crisp detail, no flash etc) fit isn't the best and it's going to need some PSR.
