Was there a plan to use an airship as an AEW platform ? My brain cells are saying I've read it somewhere ??

There was actually a U.S.Navy squadron that flew some.

Again the memory works  Must admit I thought they were of the non rigid type. Can you imagine the internal "returns" in a rigid design ? Probably end up grilling the operator

Looking forward to seeing the extra bits you're going to add as well. I'm guessing turrets

Can neither confirm nor deny turrets or a few other tricks to keep those pesky RAF fighters away... ;)

Finally got started- might make it after all  ;)

Hull complete.

Needed some trapeze mounted fighters to keep those RAF fighters at bay.  Kitbash 1/520 scale....

Me-109 from a cut down Skyraider. Untouched Skyraider on top.

Lumps kinda like a 109....touch up needed

Excellent.  Good to see it progressing.

If you happen to have a 1/72 aircraft handy next time you take a progress shot you couldn't sit it next to the gasbag so I can get an idea of its size could you?
Thanks.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Zenrat, as requested, the primed hull next to some common 1/72 kits for sizing up.

a 1/72 two seat Jaguar and a 1/72 KGR.3 Harrier.

No this is not the parasite fighter I am planning on  ;D

Yup many thanks for the size comparison.

I suppose that might be a way to get a vertical take off Jaguar ?

Fighters suspended from hot air balloons. Start the engines and release the cable...........
Our respective lawmakers could provide the hot air!

Great stuff. The beer cap also helps get an idea of the scale....

Finished.

In night dazzle camouflage, alerting German bomber raids to RAF fighters as the launch.

A single freya radar on each horizontal stabilizer, and another on retractable beam on the keel that could provide 360 degree coverage, and could be winched up to lay flat against the belly for landing and hangaring.

Two Me-109's for self defense.
