Was there a plan to use an airship as an AEW platform ? My brain cells are saying I've read it somewhere ??

There was actually a U.S.Navy squadron that flew some.

Again the memory works  Must admit I thought they were of the non rigid type. Can you imagine the internal "returns" in a rigid design ? Probably end up grilling the operator

A single freya radar on each horizontal stabilizer, and another on retractable beam on the keel that could provide 360 degree coverage, and could be winched up to lay flat against the belly for landing and hangaring.
