I recently won an auction for a Frog/Rovex Shackelton from the US.  It had a "calculate" button for the postage costs.  When I hit it, before bidding it showed:

After I had won the auction, the invoice showed a postage cost twice as much:

This is the second time this month this has happened to me.  I am rather annoyed.  I have complained to Evilbay.  I suspect nothing with come out of them which is useful.   :banghead: :banghead:

Is the first one in US dollars and the second in Australian?

That's not good.  Let us know what they say please.
You do realise we all know where you live now... :o

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

So?  I expect loads of free offers for porn and wives from Russia in the mail then!  ;) ;D

I'm not worried.  Bots can't read the image and people here, won't bother.

Is that something to do with eBay's Centralised Shipping System which they tried to foist on us here in UK?

Sellers are meant to post the stuff to a Central Depot at local postage prices, and ebay handle the rest, presumably at some HORRENDOUS mark up.

After my first sale using that I opted out, the buyers are getting a FAR worse deal using it.

Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Yes, on the screen image, it says clearly "Global shipping program".
One of many ebay swindles. I always check BEFORE buying if the auction quotes this and obviously avoid such auctions. What about preparing a standard letter form to send to sellers:
"Dear seller, I am interested in your... but WON'T buy/bid on it, because you're using Global Shipping Program. It just adds to more expenses for the buyer. You DON'T HAVE to use it. I hope you will realize this and don't use it anymore..."
What do you think? Any native english speaker willing to put it in a better shape?
Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

I tend to avoid Canadian and American auctions because of the mail costs.  This is the second time this has happened to me so I won't be bothering in future with Evilbay.  I cannot be sure what the mail cost will be.   I just found the Shakelton too tempting.  I think I'll be following Loupgarou's point in future.

I just don't buy anything on Evil-Bay from overseas except for the occasional trinket/gadget/electronic thing from Hong Kong that is so cheap it would be silly not to.  I certainly don't buy model kits from the USA.
I have done in the past and even with the seller going down to the post office and getting areal price it costs far too much.  The Canadian post office on the other hand was much more affordable, mainly because they still had a surface option.

As far as the GSP is concerned I put a big disclaimer in the kit description explaining that I have no control over this and that all I get is the £4 I charge for UK postage. If they still want to buy, and a lot do , then at least I feel they know it's not me - hopefully. I assume they do as I've had repeat purchasers
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
