What Hugh Mills DOESN'T know about flying the Loach could be hidden under one thumbnail. I heard him talk at an event in Minneapolis some years ago and he was mesmerising.
I would love to see the book filmed. He could probably do some of the flying for it - he was a Sheriff's Department OH-6/500 pilot a couple of years back. Would love to meet him.

Stuart Laycock provides a humorous rundown of where Britain has gone to war and why, over the centuries. Gems include Iceland, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Romania and Botswana!

I've just been given, free gratis and for nothing, the 1970 Ian Allan book  "Heinkel, an aircraft album".  Data and pictures of every aircraft that the company actually built.  Looks potentially useful.

So, Dazzle and Armoured Trains arrived today ... the first is really good ,  the latter is OMFG!
A truly impressive book loaded with photos and drawings/plans, some produced by the author, some original
makers and/or government drawings. Oh yeah and an appendix of related art, real world propaganda type
and a section of fictional armored trains from comic books, etc.

A monster book that's going to take time to go through and an incredible source of inspiration.

Sounds like I made the right decision and put both of those on my list for Santa.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

My latest Amazon purchase arrived today

Handley Page Victor
The Crescent-Winged V-Bomber

By Phil Butler and Tony Buttler

Published by Aerofax

It looks like the two little bumps that Airfix want you to remove from the tail of the tail of the Victor belong to a late K2 version in the last colour scheme they used so Airfix my have the K2 as a possible release in the future.

Built to Endure - The RAF Airfield Construction Branch in the Cold War by Nigel Walpole. The cover art is a gorgeous black and white photo of a Vulcan B.2 over RAF Gan  ;D .

I've only dipped into it for now and it is a collection of stories from various personnel involved, covering the story of the ACB from 1947-1966. Tales from exotic locations like Malta, Cyprus, Libya, Aden, Hong Kong. Certainly explains the joke of the Good Conduct Medal really being the Undetected Crime Badge!

Great story of an expedition into the Libyan desert that regularly got stuck in sand and at one point lost their sand ladders. The next day they spotted another one lying on the sand. It was painted stone grey and had probably laid there for 18 years since an LRDG patrol dropped it!
While building new runways at Luneberg in Germany it was observed that the bulldozer drivers from a local firm were very good. They'd learnt their driving skills as Panzer tank drivers in the Wehrmacht!

This was only £10 at the London Model Show where Chris and I also got a free copy of the Airfix 2016 Yearbook.

Mate of mine was in Lybia in the 50's with the RASC and whilst driving his truck through the desert to Tripoli managed to hit an obstruction  :o Still tells the story of the encounters with officialdom and their expected completed diagram of the accident. He submitted a blank sheet, there was absolutely nothing to hit, but he hit something ! Followed him throughout the rest of his career in the Army, that and the infamous "her majesty owes you" vouchers from Borneo
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Went to post some models and do some shopping this morning, wandered into a charity shop and came out with a big-format illustrated edition of Testing Years by Roly Beamont, for a devastating £2...... ;D
