JayBee

No.1 in the new Osprey X Planes series, the Bell X-1.

Not bad but not as good as hoped for, most of the information and illustrations are available elsewhere.

One strange anomaly is on page 63 and describes how "Skip" Zeigler was not willing to proced beyond M1 in the X-1A despite "reassurance from Chuck Yeager (flying on his wing in an afterburning F-86)".

Anyone out there ever heard of an F-86 with an afterburner?
Alle kunst ist umsunst wenn ein engel auf das zundloch brunzt!!

Sic biscuitus disintegratum!

Cats are not real.
They are just physical manifestations of collisions between enigma & conundrum particles.

Any aircraft can be improved by giving it a SHARKMOUTH!

F-86D/L and F-86K were afterburner equipped.

I supposed the unmanned scale model (s) that were launched from a Mosquito are still out there somewhere ?

The Museum of Berkshire aviation has a scale model, but I think that one was used for wind tunnel tests.

I have started By Any Means Necessary, a history of spy flights by the USAF, US Navy and RAF against the Soviets and their allies. William Burrows reveals a lot of detail and focuses on the human costs especially how the Governments lied to protect their secrets, often to the damage of the pilots and their families.

Worth getting a copy if you can.

Thanks for the tip.
Found on amazon.uk at 1 cent plus postage and ordered it immediately. ;D
Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

The Vickers flight models didn't simulate the annular intake and had a longer tail.

Several years after I first heard of it I have a copy! In 1976 a bunch of old Luftwaffe buddies get together and strafe a Chino warbirds airshow with their restored Bf109s to tempt their old USAAF rivals - now in the Confederate Air Force - to do battle one last time. I've heard great stuff about it and can't wait to read it!

HMS Leviathan. By John Winton, this story brings the last Majestic carrier into service but there are some teething issues..... From flicking through the pages some of the crew are not happy in their jobs. Bit of bedtime reading, I got this at the Farnborough show last week.

Ah yes, I think I have that in my library too. Very good.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Dawdling in Waterstone's the other day and picked up "Rebel Empire: A Novel of the Spanish-Confederate War" on offer.

Can't comment as yet but it's suitable reading on a train material
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I now have a big comic book.  ;D
A clue: The back cover is a picture of a Tyrannosaur in an F-14  :o ;D

Calvin and Hobbs  Nick?

Got it in one! It's called There's Treasure Everywhere and it has that cartoon inside.
I like Calvin and Hobbes, there's such truth in a kid and his tiger....
