couldn't agree more Nick, there a wonderful look at life, and can be reread frequently and still raze a smile and chuckle.
so will you be doing  the " flying propeller beanie hat" ? or one of the over glued aircraft?
the things you learn, give your mind the wings to fly, and the chains to hold yourself steady
take off and nuke the site form orbit, nope, time for the real thing, CAM and gridfire, call special circumstances.
wow, its like freefalling into the Geofront

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I've been reading the e-book of Eric Brown's M.52 book.  Love his writing, and of course he had an amazing life.

And I picked up these books last week.  Jerrie Mock was from near me, and I live under the pattern of the airport she took off from on her round-the-world flight.  I went to a lecture her sister gave on Jerrie's life at the local library last week.  And yesterday I went to a local museum that has a display about her with a partial "replica" (part of a wrecked 180 painted up like hers.)

And another thing:  my mom is in Paris and just sent a package.  I would bet this is from one of the booksellers along the Seine.

Rick Lowe

A couple of titles from Pen and Sword Publishing's Images of War series: 'German Half-Tracks of WW2' and 'The Sherman Tank'.
Both have photos not normally seen or (over)used in other publications, and while I'm still only partway through the Sherman title, they look good.

Not without caption errors though. But Missing Lynx provided an Errata list for the Sherman title at least, so that's a help.

Cheers

Nick

While at the Ulster Aviation Museum last weekend I picked up a few books in their shop.

Wings Day by Sidney Smith. Group Captain Harry Day appears in two different war movies, Reach for the Sky and The Great Escape. He was held in several POW camps and made 5 escape attempts!

Best Foot Forward by Colin Hodgkinson. Douglas Bader was not the only double amputee fighter pilot in WW2!  <_<

Nine Lives by Alan C Deere, a New Zealand fighter pilot who flew at Dunkirk and in the Battle of Britain. Lots of familiar names from the period and some cracking stories!

Is that the one at Aldergrove? And if so did you see XH131, the RAF's last flying Caberra that's meant to be there? I should be making a 'pilgrimage' there to see her in march next year.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

It is not Aldergrove but 20 miles away near Lisburn. It was RAF Long Kesh and right opposite is the former HMP Maze... They are in two rare hangars that were used for final assembly of Shorts Stirling bombers which were trucked in from 8 miles away along winding country lanes!
http://www.ulsteraviationsociety.org/location/4534001226  Make sure you pre-book your visit, they are not open to the general public every day.
XH131 is on display and the nose section is incredibly tight! They also have a nose from another Canberra and the very rare Shorts SB.4 Sherpa!
You should see the Gannet they've dismantled for restoration.

Thanks for that Nick, I'd have ben most frustrated to have gone to totally the wrong place!

Yes, the Nav's compartment of a Canberra PR9 is not a place for those who are claustrophobic! That particular Canberra has an oil sampling point in its flare bay that I helped install back in the 70s and I'd love to know if it's still there.  ;D

I went to Kemble in Jun 2006 when No. 39 (1PRU) Sqdn. disbanded and '131 made the last ever landing there by an RAF Canberra. I took this pic of her on the ramp there.

Or you can sell your extra copy to me. I want the book, thought I'd look for it at Telford.
