Just been in the Home bargains near me and there were loads of Spitfires, a dauntless a typhoon and a mustang, but no Vampires, the one I would actually buy they don't have.

Buy the spits and trade them for Vampires with Lee....................

I raided three local Home bargin stores this morning. And rehomed a total of 13 kits. Wellingborough, Rushden & Kettering.

Wellingborough yeided 3 F-51D's and 3 Vampire T11's
Rusden yeilded 6 Spitfire PR XIX's. (its entire stock of spitfire's). I could have netted 20 or so Vampires but all ready had enought for my needs.
And Kettering yeiled a solitary Vampire T11, the only kit they had in the store!

I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Chris, if there's owt you're looking for, I'm sure one of more of us could acquire them for you.

No, I'm fine thanks Lee  I'm just slightly amused by the feeding frenzy and also if I'm honest a little worried as for the reasons all these Airfix kits have shown up so cheap ?

I'm feeling a little deprived on this Home Bargains front !! Nearest store to me is Orpington, 10 miles as the crow flies but about an hour on the train given the way the network in London is constructed. However that would now be nearer 90 mins as the current Southern situation means that under their temporary timetable they have cancelled the Crystal Palace to Beckenham Jct link which gets you onto the Kent line and whence to Bromley and then Orpington. The next ones are situated in the darker reaches of North, East and West London.

Still am I bothered ? Not really

Tram to Beckenham Junction and then a train to Orpington from there?

Except I have to get to Birkbeck to get the tram or go into Croydon to get it and from my place Birkbeck is a 20 min walk, 5 mins bus and then a 15 min walk. If I was really bothered then I would, but in all honesty I'm not. I might have a look and see if there is anything else in Orpington (who's old enough to remember "Orpington Man" ?) and take a trip. Might be a couple of decent pubs but I don't know that part of Kent, indeed any part well at all.

The guys at Home Bargains HQ must be wondering why their Airfix stocks are shooting off the shelves so fast, especially in the North East.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Yes, but why have they got such apparently huge stocks ? It's actually a little concerning

I met a guy in one of the Home Bargains stores today who shed a little light on the situation. As you know, Hornby have had a bit of a rough time recently and they've called restructuring experts in. These experts decided that the warehouse stocks were too high and arranged to offload a large quantity to Home bargains as a quick cashflow fix. This is apparently also behind the 1/24th Spitfires that appeared for £20 in Debenhams.

Hit the Home Bargains in Edgeley, Stockport, Droylesden and Gorton again today. Edgeley had stock in for the first time ever, and some of them had the kits in the Star Buys section instead of Toys as previously, as Lee pointed out. I suspect that our predations have been noticed by HBHQ and instructions sent out accordingly... ;D

Anyway, I bought 25 more kits today, then prompty sold 3 of them in the car park to a guy who was trekking round the stores by bus and tram in the rain and couldn't find the ones he wanted in that branch... ;D

My overall totals of sellables/tradeables now stand at:

Tomahawk Starter Set: 1
Dauntless: 4
Fw190 A8/F8: 5
Gladiator: 3
Hurricane: 5
LCVP: 4
Bf 109E-7/trop: 3
Mustang: 3
Red Arrows Hawk: 4
Spitfire Mk.22: 9
Spitfire Mk.9: 3
Spitfire Mk.5: 3
Spitfire PR.19: 11
Typhoon: 1
Vampire T.11: 6

That's not including half-a-dozen I'm keeping for myself.

There are LOADS more PR.19s in one of the local shops and significant numbers of Hurricanes and Spitfire Mk.5s as well.

Weaver, I've a buyer for the Hurricanes.  I'll find out how many more he wants over the next few days - I have 7 for him as hostage swaps for the Spitfires he does have.

I've more than enough Spit 19s and 22s now, I'm just interested in mk 9s and mk I/IIs.

Okay, well I have 3 Mk.9s and 5 Hurricanes. How many Typhoons do you have to swap?

I can probably get more Hurricanes: less sure about Spit Mk.9s.

I've 9 Typhoons, one of which is part started and I know I'll need three to replace the Hobbyboss ones I have, so say 6.  Getting more Tiffies isn't difficult either, just a bus/train journey and I know I'll be hitting Blaydon again in a few days and I know that they have some more left on the shelf, ditto Jarrow.

I'll need to speak to me mate to see just how many Hurricanes he's after but will make it clear that it'll be a few months down the line afore he gets them!

Okay, I'll be out & about again Thursday so I'll check other stores for Mk.9s & Mk.1s.

Right, that's kind of what I figured although I was harbouring more worrying thoughts and if I'm honest they are still lurking in the recesses of what passes for a mind nowadays

If as I suspect Home Bargains have no great history of retailing plastic kits it will be interesting to see how they react. Will they be savvy enough to realise it's the price that's driving the bumper sales ? (I expect so) or will they think selling kits is the next big thing and buy a load more stuff to sell, I doubt it very much, but interesting anyway  ;D.
