Completely forgot that a mates daughter is a teacher in Orpington so a quick chat yesterday (they break up today ) and after some suitable bribery she today picked up some "toys" for "uncle Chris" before school

2 Mustangs ; 2 Hurricanes, 2 Typhoons and 2 Vampires.

Not sure they will work out that cheap however as the bribery consists of lunch at a rather nice tratoria in Croydon and she does like her red wine  ;D Still at least I don't feel out of the feeding frenzy

.......and as well as the "toys" your get a lunch with a personable young lady!  I'd say that's an each way winner.

Very true and she is rather attractive  ;D I sometimes feel quite envious of the Grammar School lads she teaches. Yes Kent still has council run Grammars. The other plus is she teaches history which is one of the reasons we are such good mates. She blames me for implanting the bug at a young age

Another hit on the Blaydon store after a nightmare bus journey to get there through rush hour traffic.  Although initially I thought they hadn't any new stock in - the kits were the way I left them on wednesday - a last quick check on the gift sets revealed that I'd been right and they DID have the Spitfire mk IXcs.  So, naturally, they got hoovered up, along with another Gladiator.  I also nabbed some cheap bottles of Bulmers Original and the obligatory Smokey Bacon crisps.

Blaydon is turning out to be quite a profitable store.

After slightly depleting my stash of Airfix Spitfires I decided to visit my nearest Home Bargains store which netted me

2 x 1/72 Airfix Spitfire Mk22
1 x 1/72 Airfix Spitfire PRXIX

I didn't bother picking up any more though I did see at least one of each hiding among the other small boxes of Airfix they had in stock.

Lee, if you want me to pick up some Spitfires for you let me know and I will.

No need, mate, but I do appreciate the offer.  I think I have enough Airfix 19s to do every one that the Swedish Air Force flew...

I'm really after more IXs as donor kits.  Plus the mk I/II kit for general pre war/early war whiffery.

The Wooksta!

Today has seen a huge boost in numbers of Spitfires:

1 x AZ Spitfire mk VIII RAAF
4 x Eduard Spitfire mk IXc "Profipack"

From today's Home Bargains Airfix Treasure Hunt trawl:
4 x Spitfire Vbs

Hostage swaps as part of the above:
4 x Spitfire PR19s
4 x Spitfire F22

Anyhoo, the HB trawl netted me the following non-Spitfire kits:
1 x Vampire T11
2 x Typhoon Ib (for hostage swaps)
2 x Hurricane I "ragwing" (ditto)
1 x F51 Mustang

You have no idea how close to the truth you are ;D ;D ;D
Im one of the very few who have seen his stash first hand.......................It lives up to its reputation ref numbers of Spitfires.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

My own trawl of the HB stores in North Hertfordshire has netted 2 Spitfire PRXIX and a Higgins boat from Letchworth [clearing their shelves] and a Spitfire Vb from one of the Stevenage stores, the other having nothing at all. It would seem that HB in my neck of the woods are not re-stocking - I can only summise that all the stock is being sent to the North East due to the phenomenal demand spike up there ;D ;D

Martin is about a year out of date.  And it doesn't include the secondary stash in me Mam's loft...

Today has seen lightning strikes in the Teeside area.  Two out of four had nowt, but I did net the following:

2 Spitfire Vbs
1 F51D Mustang

6 Hurricane mk Is, but these are being sold on.

There were still plenty of those sodding fountains, which I suspect that they'll struggle to shift.  I'm tempted with a few for SF dioramas.  One on Mars with Airfix astronauts, perhaps?

I know a man with a car who's enjoying the treasure hunt side of it.
