Interesting. Any idea what you intend to do with it ?

Four new Airfix Jet Provost T-3's direct from Hornby arrived today.

And one Airfix USAAF bomber support set via Mr Models ebay sales.

First thoughts ?

First thoughts? hmmm well from the first look at the spues. It looks like its going to be a sweet kit to build.

And the USAAF set?  I like the look of the tanker.

havent looked to closely at that, as theres a lot of plastic in that box. But looks like it will be a good build, when ever i get around to building it.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

The last kit I will be buying for a long while (truck got struck by lightning or near struck and fried the engine computer, going to cost a few hundred to fix...lightning!!! Go figure), but, MAN, what a kit to go out on. One of my most sought after if not the most sought after; C 5 Galaxy gives it a run for its money but between it and this one for sure.

I grew up watching these fly around pretty much every day of the year. This kit happens to be from the same group of planes that I would see that would fly out of Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, Texas (the T-38s). I live in Lawton, Oklahoma which is 50 miles N/NE and home of a giant army artillery base and army airfield (this army airfield is less than a mile and a half away from my house and I used to watch the aforementioned Galaxies do "touch and goes" on it... again, almost every day back in the 80's and through the mid 90's  These huge galaxies would fly by less than 6 blocks away and probably about 500 feet AGL, flippin amazing.. they are so big it made it look like they were barely moving and people would always talk about how they were worried one would simply fall out of the sky). ..............  AHEM....Anyway, I guess their training routine (T37s and T38s) would bring them up here to fly around Ft. Sill a bit then back down across the river to Texas. For me... along with the C5 Galaxies; watching these things fly around was always a "stop what you are doing and watch them fly" type of deal. I never understood people that would just ignore cool plans flying over head. It always brought me a lot of joy. I once got to look around a cockpit of one at an air show back in the day at the AFB the Galaxies flew from (Altus AFB in Oklahoma, 60 miles due West). I HAD TO HAVE THIS KIT!!  Now.... I do!

Special thanks to Librarian for finding the kit.

It arrived in good shape all the way across the Atlantic ocean via Royal air mail.

I hope you enjoyed my long winded story, I don't see many "stories" in this thread but this being my "holy grail" or "white whale" as it were, I couldn't just NOT tell a story.  ;D

I found that my glorious U2 spy plane is missing the main canopy.  Or was it the windscreen...  one of them is missing. I'll either have to track down an aftermarket set or use fruit container plastic or something...   ehhh...   I'm not seeing any on Ebay.  Anyone know who does aftermarket U2 glass?

Squadron and Falcon both do vacform 1/48 U-2 canopies, the Falcon one being part of their USAF Post 1950 set along with ones for F-106A, F-80, T-33, F-15A, F-5A, F-5E, F-16 and F-100.

Back again for a question about these canopy sets. I looked at my U2 again and I have the canopy but not the windscreen.  Looking at pictures of the Squadron and Falcon sets I can't tell if they have both or just the canopy. It sort of LOOKS like both, but, I can't tell. Knowing how vacuform is done the stuff that "might be" the windsrcreen could just be the half of unusable material on the end of the canopy piece.

The Falcon sets:

Two canopies? I'd rather have one canopy and one windscreen...  or, when they say "canopy" do they mean both? Surely they wouldn't make one without the other?  I'm not all too familiar with after market accessories so any advisement would be appreciated.

The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

The Falcon sets definitely include windscreens and canopies.

I have lots of them, albeit in 1/72, but every single one has both parts included. I've got a few Squadron sets too, and they have both bits included, but I must admit that pic of the 1/48 Squadron 'canopy' doesn't look as if it includes the windscreen.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Yeah, strange, right?  I wish I could see them outside of the plastic packaging. I'm thinking I'll save up and get that Falcon set as I'm definitely doing an F-100 soon and the the combined price of them all is pretty low considering I saw them on the ol' Ebay for ~$20.

EDIT: Hold on, I just tried to read the words on the Squadron set and it mentions a template for "painting inside the rear section" of the canopy. Deductive reasoning leads me to believe that there should be a forward section if there is a rear section...

Looking at this photo, it would seem to indicate that they are talking about the black L-shaped sort of stuff toward the rear on the inside of the canopy.

So, it would seem it has both because I can definitely tell which is the canopy part and the stuff in front has to be the windscreen and not just "excess" as I posited earlier.

Or... I'm blowing smoke up my own back side...  problem is on the area that seems like it should be the windcsreen I don't see any frame detail.
